Tie a loop in the tow rope maybe eigh feet from the tail, feed tail through carabiner holding the tube around your waist, then feed tail through the loop you made in step one, then grasp tail. If anything goes wrong, drop the tail, it all feeds back out and you are clear. This rig puts the pull on your hips instead of arms and shoulders. Sounds crazy to tie in, but try it and see how you feel. I'm a kayaker, I don't like the idea any more than you but it works. I've done a 100+ miles of towing a week like this.

This is the way to tow.

Carb intake boots can be bought online from places like royal distributing(Canada) or any other sled parts suppliers. The shop is useless if they can not locate them.

Need skis and carbides for my 01 summit 700 highmark.

New to sled world and have no clue. Need powder performance.

Seeing as the sled was $1000, don't really want to break the bank.

    Any suggestions?

Break the bank ? You might as well quit now dude. Replacing carbides is as normal as changing the oil on your car. Skis are expensive but don't need replacing if you maintain the carbides. Shop on ebay or use http://www.alssnowmobile.com/ for used parts. Don't bother buying new skis. Do get NEW carbides.

Don't bother with fancy carbides. I change mine every year with simple metal wear bars

Thinking I'll go for some cheap camoplast 7" with new carbides.

It'll be good enough for now.

    Couple more questions:

-Carbide length? I have a 151x15x1.75 track. I'm just using this sled for access up logging roads and some sled ski laps in pow.

-Ditch the swaybar? Better travel for sidehilling etc?

    Thanks

The size of the wearbar ( carbide) is in relation to the ski. So buy one that goes with the style of ski you buy.

And you don't need the carbide style, just a cheap steel wear bar is all you need.

Don't ditch the sway bar. Steering and bump compliance get squirrely without it. You aren't going to make that 2001 awesome in the powder. Just make it reliable for towing and tandem.

While i agree with this part of your statement, (IMO) yarding the sway bar will yield enough of an improvement off trail to justify a little unruliness on the groomed. That said, if you are going that far, also spring for a riser block that will put you in a better ride position standing up. Even if you don't yank the sway bar, it will make for a more comfortable ride position will riding tandem.

You need a riser block, 100%.

You can fit a 2" riser on that 2001 without extending the cables. I did it on mine.

The ski I'm looking at has options for a 4"/6"/8" carbide as part of the package. The price increases as the size goes up.

You guys need to meet "sit down Brian" from golden. Pulls his sled up to Gorman with a cavalier. Knows that place like the back of his hand and will do go up any thing where people take the new ones and don't know what they are doing. And as the name suggests does it all sitting down. I think the only big change he does is puts a 2 inch track on.

You on the island or coast somewhere? Cmcrawfo used to have a sled like that but way more beat and nodded. I think it was a 500. We had a ton of fun on it for years!

That's a reference to how long the carbide steel insert is on the wear rod. Go with the cheapest (shortest) option.

Ditching my 14 RMK Turbo, and picking up a 17 Mountain Cat. While doing so I decided it's finally time I get a real ski rack.

Whats everyone running for ski racks? Is CFR still king? They sure are proud of what they do....

Anyone ever have any issues with running a rack far back (or far forward) on a 162? Want to try and squeeze my Sled shovel bag on there as well (its super useful when slednecking). Thinking I could get a Skinz rear bumper to add a bit more support if needed, "riding careful" isn't an option...
