Exclamation SF-Downieville carpool and list of shit to bring

I won't escape Lumbergh's claws this Friday so I'll be leaving around 6-ish. Will be in D-ville around 10-11ish.

What shit will we need for the ride? I have squat. Just my bike and bottles....anyone got a spare:
    - camelback
    - full helmet
    - tools
    - presta tubes?

Will it be doable w/o a camelback? 17 miles of DH sans climb should take...what, 30-45 min?

If anyone wants to carpool I have room for 2 passengers, or 3 if 2 want to get jiggy in the Xtracab.

    Pu -

How do you not own a camelback??? GET ONE!

You'll want water. Don't be fooled by the fact that it's 17 miles of downhill. The winners of the Downieville Downhill can do it in about 41 minutes, but for the rest of us mere mortals, you're looking at about 2 hours of teeth chattering, white knuckle, baby head littered, creek crossing downhill. At altitude.

I'm sure the crew will have tools, but everything else, you should grab.

I'm gonna try to head up in the middle of the day, I think.

Scott and Matt are going up at night - maybe you can hook up with them?

Thanks for the heads up. I'll ask Scott when they're leaving and probably caravan w/ them.

I left my camelbak in LA. For the usual Skegg's loops I usually chug a couple pints to keep me going. You'll also note that I ride without any set of tools whatsoever.

i'll lugg tubes and tools as usual.

you are sure as hell gonna want a cammelback. it's pretty warm in nevada city today and will likely be the same in D-ville this weekend.

    other items to bring.

    swim or b-day suit
    beer
    advil
    bandaids

not sure if we can do a fire right now but i'll bring some fire wood.

I've got an extra camelback you can use. And for camping I'll be bringing a 2 burner stove that people can use as well. Oh, also, I've got a little tool kit I carry, and a toolbox in the car that anyone is welcome to use if needed.

I'm bringing myself and that's all - that will give the rest of you time to work on your pampering skills :-)

Just kidding - I've got basic tools and camp gear (i.e. stove) and a tent if anyone wants to use it (I'm morally opposed to sleeping under cover unless there's a downpour).

Anyone bringing a small bbq or anything of the like for dinner on Saturday?

I don't have a bbq, but I do think it'd be great to do some burgers or something on Saturday night. We'll be hungry...

All I know is I'm bringing my new bike!!!!! The frame is in! I saw it today. Mmmmmmm...new bike. Once the hubs come in (today or tomorrow) they'll start building it. Yes!!!!

Oh and Pu, get over your manly "Shane said I shouldn't wear a Camelback" complex. This is mountain biking, where only stupid fools don't carry water. Take it from someone who ran out yesterday, you don't want to be in that position. lph and I felt like we were gonna die. There are only about a million wannabe extremo mountain dude stores in the Gay Area. Get off your lazy ass and go buy one.

Looks like I need to bring a cooler with some meat, beer, and stuff.

As for my bike: Turner 5-spot. To say I can't fucking wait would be the understatement of the century.

man building a bike up is so damn fun. wish i had had the coin to do it with my new bike, however i feel pretty damn lucky to have a really nice new ride 4 weeks after having my old one swiped. and i'm sure it'll be all trick in a few more months.
