    Question Budget, feeding the habit 03/04?

    Well, what is it? Is there such a thing? Should there be a formula/rule of thumb for this?

    I definitely bought more than the 'ol wallet could handle this year. (2 pairs of skis, boots and 1 pair bindings) Life's not about saving money though. It's about getting out there and living.....The gear helps you live....

    I shelled out a huge pile of cash this summer to get my house painted and a new roof put on. After all that I still thought my coffers were in pretty good shape until a couple days ago. Now I'm looking at another $9K for a major house repair that needs to be done. Suddenly my ski budget isn't looking so hot...

    Me = Zero will power

    "Nice Boots, good price, wish I had cash. Shouldn't have wasted the Visa on the fourth pair of skis two weeks ago. "

    <pause>

    "Hmmm, If I only pay half the bills this month and make the car payment two weeks late.....Nah, that would fuck up my credit rating."

    <Tries on Banshees one more time.>

    5 minutes later

    "Thank You for your purchase, sir, here's your receipt."

    That's the second time this week I've been called out for using a word someone didn't understand. I had no idea I was so grandiloquent!

I gotta get a grip and stop spending for a couple months.

    LOL! KQ... you are not the only one.

    This has also happened to me with other threads too. Makes me realize where my mind is really at half the time. Scary!

    OK, we stray pretty far from the topic of skiing here sometimes, but I'm pretty sure breast feeding is a topic that won't come up here.

    The way I look at it, I give up certain things to ski because I like to ski better. For example, I do not collect dust magnets ("decorations") for my house. I do not buy fancy kitchenware. I am not in a hurry to remodel my bathroom. I don't make hubby go out and buy flowers or take me to dinner at expensive places. And I don't buy fancy gear for the slopes. You can laugh at my attire, but hey it works for me and it keeps me warm. I did plop down some cash last year for new skis, but I am hoping they last me a few years.

    Instead, we better spend the money on actual skiing. But I won't go into debt, and we're doing okay at saving for the future. Because, of course, I want to be able to ski a lot since I'll have all the time in the world to do so then!
