    CU Boulder Avi Class

Newb here. I want to take a Level I class. CU Boulder offers something they call "Level I" over two days. Is it a full-on class? Anybody taken it? I've searched but can't figure out if its a AIARE or AAA class or just something that they're calling "level 1." And when I called them, I can't get ahold of anyone to tell me what the deal is. It's only $50, which is better than the $250-300 I see other courses going for. But that's no good if I don't learn what I need to. Thanks.

I would really check out who is teaching the course (Who, what, when, where, etc...). I would be very interested in hearing who is teaching this course.

BTW, a 2 day Level 1 course does NOT meet the current AAA course curiculumim guidelines...

FYI: Found out that this is not an AAA or AIARE Level 1 course. It's just a 2 days (1 in classroom and 1 in field) that they call "level 1." But no certificate at the end that would let you move on to a AIARE Level 2. No idea who's teaching it either. Hard to get anybody to give me full answers.

This sort of sounds like the Friends of Berthoud Pass class. Do you have any phone numbers or contact info?

Nope. I've stopped by the desk, but never catch anybody there who has the answers. And I've called them, but same story. $50 seemed to good to be true when all of the other places I've found are doing Level 1 courses for $250-300. Maybe I should just save and bite the bullet. But what's the deal on the Friends of Berthoud Pass class?

Intersting stuff. I too was planning on hitting this up. But no certification...hmmm fishy. any one taken it. Spending 50$ is a waste it seems if it doesn't teach what it needs to. Kind of like buying a cheap beacon.

    looking forward to more info.

the class is more of an intro/refresher. not associated with FOBP. I took it last year and learned a good bit, but I still plan on taking an actual Level 1 course. The guys who run it are avy certified (at least Level 2 if not 3 by now). hope this helps. you should also check out CU's backcountry club @ backcountryclub.org. check it out, PM me with any questions.
