The whole mass migration thing happened in the first week of October. Quite frankly, before that, there just weren't a whole ton of posts on this board. I don't know if you remember, but when we switched forums there was originally some database corruption occurring from the import process from UBB to this forum. Most of the old stuff should be here somewhere, but there was some lost, some that had to be axed lated in an effort to prevent database corruptions from spiraling deep into the board, some that were attached to users whos stuff was corrupted (some of you may remember that your accounts got hammered and we had to start you over). It took tons of hours to figure out where the corruptions were coming from when I first imported the UBB stuff and I'm not sure exactly how much of the early history stuff died. There are still coruptions in the database, but I think I've got them down to things that affect only me as an administrator. Things have never been greased exactly pefectly since the UBB import. I know that a good portion of the pre-exodus stuff is around somewhere because someone recently bumped the thread with my old lady telling me to go to bed.
The only stuff I've intentionally culled so far are the old posts with zero responses and nothing much to say, like a year old post that just says "Go CAVS!" and that's it, and I've done those one by one.
As far as culling goes, it looks like the new version of this forum has the ability to cull by the number of respones and date which would help immensely. There are some horror stories out there about corruptions from the upgrade and that scares me a little. All of our stuff is backed up, but going through a giant upgrade only to have to trouble shoot corruptions with possibly more loss and end up having to go to backups for retoration isn't an attractive thought. Sooooo, I may upgrade but I'm going to research it more first.
In the meantime, I may archive as some of you have suggested .
At this point, I think the deleting and self pruning you've all done has helped. Anyone getting "Server Too Busy" errors anymore?
Also, if you are finding that all of your old stuff (since the October exodus) is truly gone, then let me know now and I'll go to backup ad recover it. It's possible that some corruptions are still persistent in the database that kind of link threads together -- so, you delete one and another becomes invisible but it's really still there. That is one of the many things that was happening when we first switched forums. I'll look into it.
When you're feeling down, just remember: It's always darkest before it goes pitch .... fucking.... black.
