    Here's a hint for ya:

If you ask a certain fokker who owns a big part of a heli outfit to reset your counter you too can go back down to nada (I was surprised that nobody say I reset).

    Here's one such forum:

    http://forums.macnn.com/

They used to have a lot of problems exactly like this. Then they moved from ubb to vbb and created the archives. Runs great now.

    Bitch!

Owens, I need to be reset too, my post count is WAY too high!

As far as the deleting things, that's facking hard. You haveta search, then find one, then open it, then delete it, after which you get sent back to the forum so you have to search all over again...

There's gotta be an easier way.

I'm willing to help, but that's a hard way to go.

Done and done. I don't start very many threads though, so deleting the unnecessary ones wasn't a big deal.

Use the back button, it will take you right back to your last search page.

I am glad self pruning can help but a little bummed to delete older things. IE The homestaeding thread is a great snapshot of the Exodus & Arrrival but bumping it does not make much sense.

or use Mozilla, open three tabs, use one as the search page, the other two for threads to delete. Search on your name. When the list comes up, click a link, copy the address from the bar and paste into one of the spare working tabs. Delete. As Delete is going, go back to the search tab, grab the next topic, paste address into the other spare tab. Delete. Flip back and forth, using one master search, and a couple worker windows.

I just ran through all of my threads, took me about 15 mins.

    Done and done.

Does the latest version of vBulletin have any new features that makes it faster?

    $85 isn't much.

I mean, sites like somethingawful and the straight dope must have a hundred -hell, a thousand- times as much stuff up and accessible. And it's not like it's a huge profit center for them either.

Maybe we skiers ain't too smart.

    Hell, I dunno.

Yeah, but SA charges $10 (ten bux lol) for each registration, plus additional optional features (like the ability to do a regular search or send PM's) cost additional $$. They put most of that money into server clusters which makes everything faster and able to handle the huge amount of traffic & posts/threads.

I PMed Owens offering to secretly prune the useless, low-response threads, but he never got back to me. Probably not stoked on putting admin power in someone else's hands. Can't blame him, really.

I just nixed all the threads that I started which were meaningless ( okay all of them). However, I was unable to find my first post which I think was around 12/6/03. Just wandering where it might be.

So how much disk space is the whole bulletin board taking up right now, Owens? Just out of curiosity.

Yeah, but all the "fake" aliases are really you, so it's not like you'd be finding out any secrets!

    On the mozilla thang....

You can go to preferences and set:

"middle click to open new tab"

    and

    "load new tabs in background"

that way, you can go to the the main page, then middle click on every link you want to follow, and they will all start loading. I can get all forty threads from the front page to load at once, in seperate tabs in the background. takes about ten seconds, and I never leave the front page.

did that make sense? It's how I browse the forum anyway, and it's incredibly fast. especially for dialup.
