All great mountains, but all fucking zoos with too many people, too many rockstars and too many condos.

La Meije alone would have me cockstuck. There's a new entry to the lexicon.

Briancon always burbles to the top. The number of places within an hour is freaking staggering: La Grave, Trois Vallees, Val Cenis, Val Frejus, Bardoneccia, Claviere, Montgenevre, Sestrieres, Saulx d'Oulx, Vars/Risoul, The Queyras (Ceillac, Aiguilles, Abries, St. Veran/Molines) and at leat 5 others with over 4k vertical feet.

Alagna/Champoluc/Gressoney is mindblowing in size.

But Silverton has hit my siren's chord for a while: low key, friendly town, minimal rock stars, cheap food and lodging, killer skiing. Plus Telluride is an easy day trip, provided it's not dumping madly, in which case, you'd be nuts to ski elsewhere than Silverton.

I wish I could add one more to the poll, and that would be Red Mountain and Whitewater, I suppose I should have thought of that about 2 hours ago. They fill the low key and uncrowded slot perfectly.

It's a bunch of dinky backwater draglift joints 2500-4k in vert. But after le glitz de la set jette d l"Europe and pounded pistes, it just sounds really attractive.

I voted Jackson/Targee but mostly for the backcountry. While it is now getting as busy as lift served at some of the smaller resorts I've been to, it is good, and it is challenging in many aspects.

Please don't tell my home mountains I am thinking about cheating.

Honestly, if I were to choose a mountain or two to ski for the rest of my life, I'd take a smaller mountain, someplace out of the way, little in the way crowds, old lifts, crappy cafe, nice terrain, good backcountry, etc. You know, the kind of place we would all like to call home.

Is that asking to much?

Sounds like the Whitewater/Red Mountain option I mentioned above.
