I got me a ticket too, 74 in a 55 on I-205 through Porkland. 141 bucks. Most traffic was between 65 and 70, and I happened to be passing somebody at the time.

My first ticket in 5 years, 2nd speeding ticket ever (got one when I was 19), and the second time i've gotten a speeding ticket from a motorcycle cop.

    If karma is your thing...

I think I'd pay the ticket and hope the karma points equal back out.

Here in DC if you go to traffic court there's a very good chance they'll drop the points. I went before the adjudicator and basically said that I had a totally clean record, was sorry for what I did (split lanes on my motorcycle - a nono here) and would be glad to pay the fine. I then proceeded with the "my insurance company...yadayada" whinge and they bought it. Flat fine, no court fees, and NO POINTS!!!

For both of you, if you have the bling, there's a lawyer in town (Seattle) named Jennie Mucklestone who specializes in traffic tickets. She won't be cheap, but I've never heard of her losing. She even got a friend of mine out of two tickets on the same day in front of the same judge.

All in all, her fee will be smaller than the increase in your insurance.

edit: I don't know if she goes as far as Portland or Wenatchee, but there should be local lawyers who do the same gig...

Agree - go to court and they should bring you down a notch.

    On a related note...

I was cruising at 70 in a 35 on my way to the train station one morning (late, obviously) when I saw a cop coming in the other direction. Look in my rearview and I see him pull over to make the U-turn....

So I just pull over and put my hazard lights on, waiting for him. It takes a while for him to pull out as there was a decent amount of traffic, but sure enough he parks behind and turns on his lights.

He elected to not give me a ticket on account of my obvious self-admitted guilt. He said he never had a person pull themselves over before.

You deserve the karma that you have been dealt. Pay the ticket.
