HEAVY SNOWFALL WARNING FOR
BANFF NATIONAL PARK ISSUED
10 TO 20 CM OF SNOW WILL FALL OVER THE MOUNTAINS ABOVE THE 1000 METRE
LEVEL TONIGHT.
A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM TRACKING ACROSS CENTRAL ALBERTA WILL PRODUCE STRONG SOUTHWEST WINDS ACROSS SOUTHWESTERN ALBERTA TONIGHT. SOUTH OF THE LOW TRACK OVER SOUTHWESTERN ALBERTA WINDS OF 60 GUSTING TO 100 KM/H HAVE BEEN REPORTED AT WATERTON PARK. STRONG SOUTHWEST WINDS NEAR 70 GUSTING TO 100 KM/H WILL CONTINUE OVER SOUTHWESTERN ALBERTA TONIGHT. WINDS WILL GRADUALLY DIMINISH FRIDAY MORNING. A MOIST PACIFIC FLOW ASSOCIATED WITH THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM HAS PRODUCED 5 TO 8 CM OF SNOW AT LAKE LOUISE AND RCMP HAVE CLOSED HIGHWAY 93 BETWEEN LAKE LOUISE AND SASKATCHEWAN RIVER CROSSING. A FURTHER 10 TO 20 CM IS EXPECTED TO FALL IN THE MOUNTAINS TONIGHT ABOVE THE 1000 METRE LEVEL. HIGHER SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED LOCALLY. MORE SNOW IS EXPECTED OVER THE MOUNTAINS ON FRIDAY.![]()
