    Alt. Energy Advice

Hopefully we've got a couple of solar/wind power industry mags here - I need some advice. I've decided (after about two years of reading everything I can get my hands on) that I am going to pursue a career in alt. energy. Realistically, I expect to start as an entry level installer and see where I can go from there. Initially, I applied to San Juan College, but their 3 year waiting list is a bit daunting. The other options I am considering are: (1) Attend all of the necessary MREA courses and certification courses over the next 18 months or so; beginning this coming spring / combined with doing as many "pay to play" and volunteer installations as I can - then apply for jobs. (2) Attend the MREA equivalent SEI courses / certification courses and volunteer projects - then apply for jobs. or (3) Attend Lane Community College beginning next fall and apply for jobs after graduation.

I have heard and read differing opinions regarding the need for journeyman electrician certification for job qualifications - can anyone shed light on that?

Thanks for reading this book - any feedback is most helpful.

Find a Certified Energy Manager class.
Take a trip to NREL in Golden.
You might learn something while you're there.
DOE is actually a great resource.
