    car accident related advice needed

so...long story short I backed into a shitty car and dented and scratched the top of their trunk with one of the bike pedals dangling from my rack. I wrote them a note and left my contact info. This car already had a bunch of damage on it, bumper hanging off, dents on side, faded paint, etc and i didnt think that the guy would actually care. I just thought it was the right thing to do.

I get a call from the guy and he thanked me for writing the note and he says that he doesnt want to go through insurance. I tell him to get an estimate and I will take care of it. he says he doesnt want to get if fixed, but he says that he would like $150.

Now I know that I damaged his car, but something just seems wrong here. If hes not going to fix the car should I pay him anything??

By the way Im in colorado if youre curious... Post some advice if you got some for me.

$150 sounds cheap. not sure if there is a way to make it so he cant go after you through the courts/insurance if you pay up though.

Even though his car is a piece of crap, you damaged his property. You left your information and he contacted you.

So you owe him some cash, regardless of whether or not he is going to repair the damage. $150.00 does not seem like alot, if you press the issue and have him get some estimates it might turn into a bigger problem. If $150.00 will make it go away then I would write a check.

I was involved in accident in college that was not my fault and I was sent a check for $1000.00 for the damage to the car. The money was used to fund a lengthy bender instead of fixing my piece of crap Volvo.

Pay him teh $150.00 that's a cheap deal. However, write up a contract for him to sign stating that by you paying him $150, he won't go after you for more later (either for vehicle damages, or personal "injury"), and tht he won't make an insurance claim. State on the contract that HE requested to not go through insurance channels.
