I hope that either they change the tire specs or let another company take over next year. It is ruining what should be a great F1 season.

Although the end of the race was good, it was all set up by the tyre debacle. More yellows than a nascar short track.

^^^Agreed, but if they can race like that for five laps, why are the other 45 so boring?

while the unpredictability of tires sucks, it does make things more interesting.

Crane in Montreal and now this. People just standing around in the hot pit without safety gear. So F1..

    The Pinnacle of motor racing:

PARIS -- Formula One's governing body has announced new rules to improve safety in the pits following an accident at the German Grand Prix in which a cameraman was injured by a runaway tire that came loose from a car.

The FIA says only team personnel and marshals will be allowed in the pits during qualifying and races. Accredited media will be confined to the pit wall.

It will also seek the World Motor Sports Council's approval for team personnel to wear head protection
plus request a reduction in the pit speed limit from 100 kilometers per hour to 80.

The wheel from Mark Webber's Red Bull injured Paul Allen last Sunday. Allen was hospitalized but is expected to make a full recovery.

    Red Bull was fined $38,650.

^^^Typical FIA. $38,650 isn't even the bar tab after Vettel's win.

Having cameras in the pit area makes it much better for the fans, change the pit rules to make sure tires are mounted properly, maybe some other crew man that checks the wheel before the car can be released, or shut of the car during tires like they do during fueling in sports cars. Refiring the car would add enough delay to catch problems, or some such thing.

Someone is supposed to do that already. And didn't in this case, car was released anyway.

The're working on an automatic release system linked to the wheel nut lock mechanism whether that goes as far as being through the standard ECU or just a traffic light system I don't know. Hopefully it'll prevent some of the unsafe releases/near misses in pit lane that have been going on.

What really/also needs to happen is to slow the stops down from the current 2.5 seconds.

This, but you have to admit it adds to the excitement. A 2.0 second four tire change will happen sooner rather then later.

It is probably more dangerous to be on the pit lane then in the cockpit.

"Someone is supposed to do that already. And didn't in this case, car was released anyway."

The crew member on the right rear was franticly waving "I'm not done don't release the car" but the automatron crew realeased the car anyway.
It is [was] crazy that camera crews were the only people on the danger side of the pitwall with no helmets/safety gear.

If they could just get Pirelli to make some really shitty(ier) tires that only lasted 2 or 3 laps maximum they could decide the championship with pit stops?

Maybe tires that only last half the length of pit lane.... teams require a second pit crew or just have the first crew chasing the car on foot?

apparently Bernie's daughter used all of Pirelli's secret tire ingredient for her plastic surgery, you'll have to wait till next year.

On another note, I noticed Bernie did show up to the German GP...no outstanding warrants? Or just kept one step ahead of the law?

Apparently there is also a feature film documentary in the works about the making of the Steve McQueen Le Mans movie. Supposed to be a bunch of new footage recently discovered.

I'm skeptical, but I sure hope Lord Hesketh was written into this script a lot. A classic upper class. Brit twit from a bygone era in racing. You could make a movie about him alone.

Probably won't be very much of him since he had quit F1 by start of 1976/the subject season of the film. I gather there is some historical background though, they recreated an F3 race at Crystal Palace in Sarf London with young Hunt and Lauda as competitors. Hunt's joining McLaren from Hesketh was quite dramatic so I imagine that'll be covered somewhat.

Reviews from F1 journos who've seen preview screenings throughout this season are mostly very good.

I am actually looking forward to this film, something I never do. I keep hearing good things about it, and I like the fact Ron Howard started from scratch with no expectations about F1. Funny that he watched Talledaga Nights and Gimme Shelter for research.

In other news, is this one of the silliest silly seasons ever? Lots of big changes?

And looking increasingly likely that other than Webber being replaced by Ricciardo not much change is really going to happen.

Difficult as it is to believe that Massa might really stay another season, but I think it's more likely than not now.
