This process has been somewhat sidetracked. So if we seem to have exhibited an inordinate amount of indecisiveness, well, maybe we have, er, haven't , er had........

SO - we're going back to dm's original designs and holing up in a cave for a few days. We're trying to build the skis the graphics go on first and foremost, so we're gonna give this a rest and revisit it in a few when things have had time to get straightened out. So please bear with us, as everyone's feedback has been absorbed, contemplated, digested, and now we need to hit the round table to sort out our priorities and come back with that unified vision so sorely lacking to date.

We really appreciate every response we've gotten. Thank you all, very, very much. This is happening at a somewhat maddening pace, but it is happening.

During the commercial, please enjoy the movies provided for your most pleasurable entertainment..............

    hat in hand

I'd love to throw a few designs around. Got some time to kill tomorrow.

Anyone have an illustrator file w/the sidecut mask I could use for a template (I'm a digi-file jong, more of a pen and ink guy)? Monkey?

I was gonna ask the same question. Just the blanks? I'd like to play a bit too. Tried c&p'ing the Carnage set, (the others are bmp's - no good for me.) but don't have PS on this machine - it's a pain to do everything manually with PhotoImpact.

Got a .jpg or a link to a blank set?

Thanks for the offers, guys, but we have officially postponed any further design pursuits until PM Gear has gotten the protos built.

I'm hoping DM could post a slightly larger image of the Blue Bomber design, about the same size (or slightly large) than 2plankers images :-) (Pwetty Please!)

I've made a better 3d render+movie of the Carnage skis, as the image provided was of a better quality and I did a bit more work on it... You can find it here (2.1MB, Mpeg-4 codec required)

Just a guess here, but the CEO and PM Gear's board members?

This business made up of maggots is giving us other maggots a chance to be involved in an epic adventure to produce a ski that we all would collectively like (or at least live with till they do something that really tickles you in a way we never want to know ).

It is not everyday that some business gets on a internet BB and says "hey guys, help us design our ski, with you in mind". That is just cool and to me unheard of.

The designs both have their own "artistic style" in regards to the 2 designers, DM and 2P, I can clearly see a different style in the topsheets you have designed. They are very unique.

Can't wait to see what happens.

Good luck. No matter what you come back with it's the guts of the ski that really matter.

I know that the proecss is 'closed pending further investigation' and all, but I for one would absolutely LOVE to see the original bomber girl that DM came up with. I know it didn't get approved but it is still kicking around, no? Please give us a sneak DM.

Yes, the 'every wo/man voice his/her opinion' doesn't work, but it can be used to grtadually eliminate several designs and whittle it down to a few that most people can agree with. I would like to echo the question as to why the blue bomber (kick ass design even though I think some people are looking a little too deep but that is another issue) was not carried over even though it met with resounding approval from the collectif. If 5 designs were the final mass voicing (of which there is the blue bomber, #5 and maybe #1) then the final decision can be made by the people actually running the show. I don't think that there would be a grumbling, everybody got to air their ideas and the final decision is still up to the executive and graphic designer.

    My two cents.

But I would still reallllllllly like to see that first design DM. I like you style since it would be similar to my tastes and I want to see how you did the original.

Still stoked to see the whole process and the birth of this new baby.

Under normal broad-market focus group testing, absolutely impossible.

But - most of the issues people are voicing are with the iconography/symbols being used, not the overall aesthetics and feel (with a few nit-picky exceptions here and there).

If the main complaint is with the iconography, you find iconography that has the same feel you're after, but better appeals to your market. Tough under normal circumstances, but in this situation we're all here because of a shared passion. The skulls are really nicely drawm, and the bombers have a cool - if overly literal - reference, but their appeal is a bit specific and trend-happy.

If the symbolism employed revolved around something that stems from the mountains, literal or not, I bet there'd be near zero complaints.

I liked both bombers better than the vote-able sheets. Of those, I echo the 1 & 5 sentiments. Ditch the URL for sure though. And instead of doing my homework, I worked up a little creative stoke.

In the interest of space and bandwidth, I shrank 'em down. The white lettering on the noses says "official maggot prototype". Inside the fireball at the tails it says
"PMGEAR...so hot right now" (get it? 'cause it's in a fireball. yeah...)

fullsize jpgs at 200k & 300k respectively found at:

Cool. We really appreciate all the enthusiasm you guys have shown about the skis. But I'm still sweating bullets, having left them scattered in pieces around the shop, ready to be assembled tomorrow, resined up and pressed.

I feel like Annie - Tomorrow, tomorrow.....
    ...gotta get through tomorrow.
I'll have some pics to post.
