    Cruisers

I'm looking to pick up a grocery getter. I live a couple block from the sto'. Driving is a waste and walking's just not my style. I've got to longboard for small trips but I need a city bike.

It's gotta be slightly stylish, able to fit a rack/basket (I think this is universal), and fun to ride. I'm not looking for a $99 POS. I'll have it forever of quality is good value. Any suggestions for websites either for completes or builds? Any Denver LBSs have a good selection?

Just weld a rack onto this sucker. Not really practical, but hell it's under $200 and you'll look cool.

Check out the Marin Drakes Beach. Aluminum and super lightweight. I bet that High Gear In Longmont can get you one, call Buzz and ask if he has one in stock.

Buy an Electra or a Dyno. DO NOT BUY A NIRVE. My Nirve is a POS, although I do ride the bike everywhere. Just had to replace every bolt on the bike. My only knock on Electra is that their basic frame is a little small for me (6'2 215#). I highly recomend (and have ridden both)...

If you haven't thought of this, and live somewhere with hills, look into getting an internal 3- or 5-speed hub. They r00l.

Those Electras look pretty sweet. I only need a single speed cause it's sooper flat in the city.

I've been thinking single speed as well.
Any of you hub heads care to add an opinion regarding the lightest, burliest, most curvaceous options out there?

I picked up one of these. It's sweet for cruising to the grocery or packy. It's already got me one date. I walked into the LBS and said, "hey I saw this bike for $200 on the internet. I;ll give you $225 for it." Done!

I saw this thing in the store the other day (Giant Stiletto), and it looks way better in person than in this stupid photo:

I was and am very tempted...

As a six year UCSB veteran I consider myself somewhat an authority on cruisers. (all 300+ day seasons) That said I'll put in my two cents as a cruiser purist.

    A real cruiser has:

    One speed

    80's or earlier schwinn frame

    backpedal brakes

    dual spring seat

    26 x 2.125 tires

standard cruiser handlebars needed to transport your date

    May or may not have:

    fenders

    front basket

    chain guard

    whitewalls

(although all four on the same bike is pushing it)

    Does not have:

    front shock of any kind

    headlights

Monkey bars , super wide, or over extended bars

low rider resemblance of any kind

    disk brakes

Basically it should look something like this or this.

I guess it's a non issue with the basket anyway. Using a backpack will leave your options open.

My bike is a Supercycle purchased for the reasonable price of $170Can. Not enough quality to last forever and heavy as shit but comes with curb pummeling front tires and a solid comfy ride. Basket holds lots too.
It's not so much the model year, it's the high mileage or meterage to keep the youth of Canada happy
