Well not exactly, since seven years ago neither this forum nor the Powdermag forum existed, and at the time I thought a message board was made of cork and push pins, but you get the idea.....
Seven years ago my wife and I made a tough decision to pack up and leave a place we call home. There was talk of goals and the future and such things. We knew it would be a long road, and so we settled in the urban prairie, hoping to make the best of it. There we discovered new things like clowns at bars, velveeta-filled bratwursts, human-sized formaldehyde tanks, people who scrapbook, lonely and featureless horizons, the Green Mill Cocktail Lounge.
If absense makes the heart grow fonder, it also makes the mind go haywire. I lived in two places at once--physically in the second city, mentally on the west coast. That's not a good thing to do, and I told myself that, numerous times.
Then we moved to northern Cal. Ah, we can actually SEE mountains from here. Certainly a step in the right direction. Met a few Kookwood maggots and felt like a local again--just barely.
And now it's all over. Next week those seven years come to an end. Next week we move back among giant ferns and even kookier locals. It's not a perfect eden, but it's home.
See you in line for first chair at Alpental.
