I've been waiting seven years to post this

Well not exactly, since seven years ago neither this forum nor the Powdermag forum existed, and at the time I thought a message board was made of cork and push pins, but you get the idea.....

Seven years ago my wife and I made a tough decision to pack up and leave a place we call home. There was talk of goals and the future and such things. We knew it would be a long road, and so we settled in the urban prairie, hoping to make the best of it. There we discovered new things like clowns at bars, velveeta-filled bratwursts, human-sized formaldehyde tanks, people who scrapbook, lonely and featureless horizons, the Green Mill Cocktail Lounge.

If absense makes the heart grow fonder, it also makes the mind go haywire. I lived in two places at once--physically in the second city, mentally on the west coast. That's not a good thing to do, and I told myself that, numerous times.

Then we moved to northern Cal. Ah, we can actually SEE mountains from here. Certainly a step in the right direction. Met a few Kookwood maggots and felt like a local again--just barely.

And now it's all over. Next week those seven years come to an end. Next week we move back among giant ferns and even kookier locals. It's not a perfect eden, but it's home.

See you in line for first chair at Alpental.

Welcome back, ya kook. Just remember, the skiing sucks here, so sponge off your wetsuit.

    Thumbs up

Congrats, Schmear! That's fantastic news. Nothing like heading back to where you've always wanted to be. Do I see a moving TR in the near future?

Congrats, Schmear. Glad to see you join the list of righteous folks taking steps (back) in the right direction.

Sick and ashamed and happy (and you probably won't see me in line for first chair at Alpental),

    Exclamation

You are not allowed to leave until you find a replacement for yourself on our indoor team.

EDIT: Which I can overlook in return for tourguiding services at Alpental this winter.

    Hmmm...contemplating move...

Sick and ashamed and happy (and despite not having seen Schmear play, I can pretty much guarantee that I would not be a suitable replacement),

Good for you man! Alpental looks amazing.

Funny...it will be seven years before I can make my "finally moving" post. Sounds like you kept it mostly positive wherever you were. Trying my best to do the same!

Congrts Schmear! Although I only met you a couple times, I do have to say, get yo-self back to Kirkwood again next season, ya hear??!!

I look forward to making a real move in the future, too. Either Tahoe or Utah. Enough of this staying in the same vicinity from where I graduated. What's up with that?? Anyway, good luck to you and the wife!!

Congrats again to Schmear!! You da man!!

Now, back to the slight hijack:

    Reason #1: Girlfriend.
Reason #2: I like the taste of Jay Peak bark.
    Reason #3: Family.
    Reason #4: Security.
    Reason #5: Condensing numbers 1, 3 and 5; I am a big, fat pussy.

Sick and ashamed and happy (and even pussies eventually act on dreams),

Looking forward to it. - First in line at Chair 2, though. Less than 6 months away and counting.

You'll have to join in on the Tiger Mtn. Tuesday bike riding bandwagon until then.

some parallel lines here- my wife is re-evaluating ER vs Family Practice medicine and now thinking there's a good chance we'll be home this winter rotating then possibly residency in billville...
after 4 years away I'm ready to finally settle- as much as I've enjoyed the other cultures of the nonskiing masses as you've described- they can keep that shit- I'm goin back to the mtns

"physically living" in Chicago is dumb enough, regardless of where your mind is. It obviously was somewhere since you went to NoCal from there. Good luck rejoining the body and mind...
