Boston & NY Magnions (Periferally Political Thread)

    Hey -

I'm going to be in Boston for the DNC Convention the last week in July (24th-31st) and in NY for the RNC convention the last week in August. I hear the food and drink suck in both towns ( ) so please, educate me properly (extreme "Physical Education" not necessary!!)

Anyone wanna play? I will be sporting a company card...

if you have anything to do with the convention in boston you will likely get shunned by the locals. people here are not looking forward to the complete shutdown of the metro area for three days.

cover of the herald said something like 77% of Boston people plan on going on vacation or tele-commuting for the DNC...wish I could say the same. Oh well...the orange line won't be stopping at North Station which could actually shave a couple minutes off my commute...super doubtful though.

as far as our world class cuisine, try the Beacon Hill Pub or BHP as it's known round n'yaw, TC's on Haviland st or Triple O's on broadway. each a fine establishment for dining.
    thats new hampshire as fuck

BHP? Fine dining?? Did I miss something?

Edit: Leaving the original message there so you guys can give me the harassment I'm due. I'm a total dope. Good one vinz.

i think it stops at haymarket or state. where they will bus you through gridlock traffic, from all the closed highways, around the fleet center to community college. it should take three hours to make the transfer during rush hour.

ps...that doesn't include any time you might be pulled aside to have your bag/briefcase searched.

The only thing world class about that place is the puking in the street and the hangover you get the next day.

You want good food cheap? Try the fish tacos at the Border Cafe in Harvard Square or the BBQ at Blue Ribbon. Of course, if you're up for putting back a few pints, I'd say hit Boston Beer Works just down the street from the FleetCenter.

    [Mr. Burns]...EXCELLENT...[/MB]

I'll PM when the time draws closer. Damn I hope our hotel is near the Fleet Center (the "New Gaaahden?") No idea where my boss is putting us up, yet.

Looks like walking distance is the key for food & drink. Puke is not a problem - I've got a wikked pair of Gore-Tex hiking boots.

And yes, if you don't absolutely, positively NEED to be anywhere near there I'd highly recommend going out of town or staying home that week. You should have seen Savannah during the G8 - a ghost town. The business council is thinking of suing the city for over-stating the potential problems and scaring away their customers. The upside for us? Never a wait for a table.

Just think - NY will be worse 'cause of the protesters...

    no.

    actually

    Bistro 5
    5 Playstead Rd
    Medford MA
    (781) 395-7464

is really good. highly recomended by base. but $$ , with an amazing wine list.

getting tanked in medford is pretty dull, so you might want to venture down town for party time

    Icemang:

If it were up to my boss, probably (kidding)... but Allah be praised one of my best friends lives on the UWS (72nd & West End) and has a spare bedroom.

The problem is that some idiot sold our logistics idiot on the fact that Medford is only 10 minutes away in Non-Rush Hour traffic. What said idiots didn't take into account are the security measures n'shit. You'd think this is their first big event...

Basom - it's a date, handsome - I'm holding you to your promise! I might even find some Reuters Schwag for you if you beaners...I mean BeanTOWNers... want.

Yes, non-rush hour traffic...those 5min. between 3:55-4am. Club Med is one of the many scenic areas on my daily commute.

I hear the Squire in Meffah has good wings, tuesday is amateur night so you aren't allowed to tip.

Screw the orange line, it's only an hour for me to walk home, I'll just laugh at the people in traffic...laugh and laugh...kinda makes me wish I hadn't broken up with my girlfriend who lived in the North End, only a 20 minute walk to her house from work...oh well...such is the life of an idiot like myself.

edit: d'oh. Leverett connector is closed too....walking is out. I guess I'll try the subway/bus deal once and see how it goes, if that sucks as much as I think it will, I may have to try the boat route.

anyways, lemme know the plan and I'll try to get drunk with you fools.

    Same.

I'm planning on some interesting protest tactics for the RNC, but more on that later.

Not really, although Bob's on Main Street has amazing take-out Italian and other food. If it makes you feel better, that is a short drive to the Fleet; and I hear that the Amerisuites is decent.

Have no fear, my friend- I'm about 10 minutes away. I'll probably be in Philly for some of that time, but when I'm not we will chow more BBQ and drink more IPA than the Surgeon General recommends. Geeeeet stoked- I think that the folks (arrgh) are out of town that week, so there could be a blowout at the Keaton house.
