Wow. What a fun little river.
I had the morning off, and despite a late start, things turned out pretty solid.
Not a bad place to spend a morning...
Fish were tucked up right tight to those banks and by the end of the morning were willing to munch on just about anything that floated over their heads.
No bugs on the water when I got there, so I started throwing nymphs and soft hackles but didn't have much luck. Plus, the weeds and shallow water were making things a bit difficult (at least for this inexperienced angler).
Right around lunch, fish started coming to the surface for the occasional mayfly or caddis and things started to get a bit more interesting.
This guy was fun.
And so was he.
Ended up with a bunch of some nice ~14"-16" brown. According to a friend who fishes there a lot, there are some MUCH bigger fish in there. But that don't matter to me...I guess I'll save them for next time.
I'm a happy man.
And the drive home ain't bad either...here's Lone Mountain from the west:
