In other news, one of your toys resurfaced. Mayhem plays with it, but not for long sessions and won't play with it if we are watching. Seriously. It's weird.

Cute pic. Congratulations!
that’s great
I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.
Looks a lot like our Amber. Smartest cat we ever had and what a hunter. Lived with us for 20 years. I sure miss you Toonces.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.
Bringing anti-stoke to this thread. Hobbes went across the bridge yesterday, completely unexpectedly. We were out of town for the long weekend and got a call from our vet neighbor about an injured cat she thought could be her. Sure enough it was. She was found hiding under a patio table a few houses away from us, covered in puncture wounds, hypothermic, dehydrated, covered in her own shit. Apparently the neighbors heard mad ruckus at 5am and caught a pack of raccoons attacking a cat on their safety cam.
We made it back to town just in time to convince the animal control lady to release her to our vet friend for rabbies quarantine. She was in sorry shape but I was hopeful she was just bruised and battered and would recover within a day. The next morning she looked worse, body temp still way low, no interest in food/water, very weak, could barely muster a growl when I stuck my head in her crate. We did a full work up as her injuries couldn't explain her state and found that she was in acute kidney failure. Most likely scenario is poisoning, probably ethylene glycol from a car leaking coolant. If cats ingest the stuff you have 4 hours to treat or they're done. Apparently she did just that and hid away to die but was cornered by the coons and took a beating on top of it.
I'm gutted. She was 12, super healthy, and despite her challenging personality she was my first born (got her when she was 6 weeks old) and I loved her furry ass. Was hoping she'd make it to 20, as a super skiddish female she was never far from the house and smart enough to avoid trouble, unlike Ugly.
That's 3 cats and a dog in the space of a year, I don't think I can deal with another pet loss. Ugly is in limbo as well with chronic kidney issues, really hoping he gets a few more years.
Hug your kitties y'all.

Fuck. That was not on my bingo card. Hobbes, may you rule the next world until someone breaks the seal and releases you back into this world.
That's devastating. So sorry to hear that.
Fucking RaccoonsRIP little Hobbes.

Aw, fuck! So sorry for you all, B.
So sorry Boissal!
I'm reaching my loss limit too. It's just too hard anymore. As much as I love all my animals I know I will lose them one day. I try to put it out of my mind but it is increasingly hard. I had a friend who jokingly called his pets "little tragedies waiting to happen."
Interesting that tragedies has the word "dies" in it.

yeah, that more truth than joke… the older i get the more difficult it is for me to take on new pets, knowing what the inevitable outcome is going to be.
i’m very sorry for your loss, boissal.
These days I’ve been kind of worrying that I’ll die before my pets do. I can’t see then adjusting to life anywhere else.
