    Beautiful Blues.

Chao still trying to heal his tail before we move ahead. We custom cut a cone. He has a lot of stress from all this. Still a question whether we can save him.

Yes, Buster's blues are looking quite regal and happy!

Seriously still thinking you can't save Chao? It seemed like he was making such progress.

Two steps forward three steps back. About three weeks ago he bit the end of his tail off again and exposed thicker bone. From there we had to use a cone for a big dog to keep him off his tail. This is not a good situation. He’s frustrated and has stress seizures which are not pretty. When we do take his cone of his obsessive grooming goes crazy. His tail is almost healed. From there we will see if he can function without self mutilation. If he can’t then it might be decision time.

The oversized cone is no way to live for him or us.

Why not get his tail cropped?

Long ago Toby came to live with me, he was a neighbors cat and had to have his teeth removed due to gingivitis.

He did fine and lived many years.

Here is our newest. Oreo was a single stray kitten that had been seen in a undeveloped lot in Sandy on its own for a while. Someone trapped her and our other cat Jay sprang her from kitty jail. Weve had her a couple weeks and she gives 0 fuks about our dogs, no issues with our cats is fearless and will eat more than our full growns. And just the sweetest loviest damn thing. Melts my cold icey heart every time she mewsClick image for larger version.

I am ok surrendering him if it is time. Had cats all my life and never sent one away.

There is a smart friendly cat in there. Maybe two more weeks in the big cone.

Feeding him by hand into the cone is satisfying. Twice a day. He eats a lot and is fat

What if you did a nerve block to see if he still does it then you might know if bobbing his tail would be beneficial.

I’m sorry to hear about 4matic’s cat, that’s a sad story and sometimes kitties give us sad stories.

TheFugitive’s story is a good one though.

I’m just kicking it with one of mine in a sunny window on a winter afternoon. Very nice to be able to do that.

It is sad but he showed up on my doorstep starving. He’s had some great days since and eats $1 a can food. If he weren’t so damn cute..

Well, he came to you for a reason.

Reminds me of Mr. Socks, the outside stray that I found year before last in one of my ground hog traps as a kitten. He some how made it thru the winter and had a bit of a ruff summer but is pretty healthy looking now. He even comes in the basement and finally figured out the box. He comes and goes as he wants and one day as with most strays I figure he will no longer be at the door. But until then there is kibbles, head rubs and a scratchy box to lay in a warm basement.

It was time to take the cone off. It’s quite horrific. Chao immediately self mutilated his body; covered in blood now. Hasn’t bitten his tail yet! Three hours of struggle and he’s starting to slow down. It’s so strange that I can give him a treat and he gently takes it out of my hand. Then back to business of violent grooming.

I'm sure we've discussed this but ..... CBD oil if you haven't tried it. What do you have to lose at this point?

    sad to read. condolences.

Our previous rescue was pretty crazy, it took over a year before one could reach out to her and not get swatted. We had to caution anyone that came to our house. It took a lot of patience and discipline not to hit her back.

She also had a habit of roaming the house at night yowling, so we had to lock her in the sunroom at night. All this and a severe thyroid imbalance so she couldn't gain weight and eventually wasted away.

We gave her as good of a life as she probably ever could have had.

Ok... Chao is through cone withdrawal seizures (3 hours!). He let me clean him up and brush out the knots. No problem. Not interested in his tail yet.

My hope is that while he was in the cone we cured his skin problem and maybe won’t be as itchy.

Our cat Kimo used to bring home treats for her humans all the time. Mice, voles, chipmunks, birds, frogs. Mostly she would leave them at the front door. Although One time I’m in the shower and hear my wife screaming. Come running out into the living room soaking wet to see kimo swatting down a wounded bird trying to fly away. Up it would flutter, then “whomp” she knocks it back to the floor. Wait a minute and repeat.

She (cat, not the wife) would also bring in dragonflies, chew their wings off and leave them buzzing on a brown shag carpet. Nothing like stepping on a wounded dragonfly while barefoot...
