Suplex!
I've mentioned before that my house cats seems to have delicate constitutions. They were very gassy as kittens and have never really had normal poo. I chalked some of this up to the woman I got them from - she claimed to have been a vet tech at one point in her life but I'm not sure she was good at it because the food she gave them was poor quality and she had changed it up on them a couple times. When I got them I fed them Nutro Max Kitten food (dry) which is what I've fed all my kittens for the last 10 years (when the kittens are really young I add a bit of warm water to the kibble to make a gravy and soften it for them). When they reach one year I switch them to the Cat formula.
I was in the process of switching the house cats from Kitten formula to Cat formula when it finally occurred to me that maybe, even though I'd always used this food, it wasn't great for these guys. One in particular suffered from reoccurring bouts of diarrhea. He is a happy cat but reserved/skittish and liked to stay inside while the others went out and explored. After the last mushy poo incident I decided he and I had had enough and I went searching online for a cause which led me to new food.
I found this based on online reviews and people's stories who had the similar issues:
Blue Buffalo Sensitive Stomach Chicken Recipe Adult Dry Cat Food
From the moment I walked in the house with the bag that one cat was dancing around. I-kid-you-not. He followed me up to the laundry room where the dish is and circled my legs while I opened the bag and filled a dish. I put the dish down and he dove right in like he hadn't eaten for days! It was amazing and what is even more amazing is the change in him in just one day. He is much more active. Wants to go out and stay out exploring further than he ever dared before. Where he was shy before he is bold now and he's SO happy! He purrs and loves on me and bounces around like he's been reborn and best of all - no pudding poos!
Crazy. I'm sorry I made him wait a year to feel this good.
BTW - I decided to not mix the food - he was already having issues so what did I have to lose? I left the old stuff out and gave all the cats free choice. I've seen all gravitate to this new food and have not had to refill the dish with the old food because no one eats it now.

Lying in wait for unsuspecting prey. Cats are so fing cool.
Are the eyes a bit of a crazy color, or is that a camera effect? Awesome pic either way
It may be the contrast with his black coat but his eyes are that color, no camera effect.
Sweet kitty!
I can't tell you the number of people I've known who swear they hate cats until they meet one that is a purring, loving ball of fur. What I call "a purr-furr"
Crazy over-groomer bit the tip of his tail till it bleeds. Poor guy. Had to put him outside for the night (he has shelter). OTOH, his tail got covered in burrs and let me comb them out without any resistance.
This is a tough one. I sit with him outside and he is fine, then, he goes into near seizure trying to groom and ends up biting his tail. It is difficult to watch.

What part of him is he over-grooming? You might be able to put a Suitical on him to curb it at least for a while. Maybe that would help break the cycle.
Here's my over-groomer with his Brazilian. He lets it grow back a bit from time-to-time which makes me wonder if it doesn't have to do with being wormy. I do worm him often but he's a barn cat and eats everything he can catch so it's a battle.

He over-grooms everywhere. Mostly haunches and belly; not as bad as yours but bad. The tail biting is new. He has a safe spot in the garden for now and I’m bringing him treats. Try and keep him calm for a few days.
It’s sad. He gone insane. I suspect feline hyperesthesia.
Pretty close to this.

It doesn't sound like a death sentence:
Prognosis for Cats with FHS. In most cases, FHS is a relatively mild disorder that only causes occasional disruption of a cat's daily life. The syndrome isn't a fatal one, but it's possible for a cat to develop an infection if it mutilates itself to the point of creating open sores.
Are you in a state where you can buy cannabis products? Maybe try this:
CBD Companion
Description
Our wellness inspired Companion Tincture line is produced in honor of that special family member who is always there for you, loving you unconditionally.
10% of all Companion proceeds will go to Northwest organizations that are furthering pet wellness. If you’d like to learn more about this initiative or would like to recommend Northwest organizations that can benefit from this program, please contact us. We are very excited about this program and all the benefits it will provide.
The companion tinctures utilizes a 5 to 1 ratio of CBD to THC, providing an effect that is low in psychoactivity, but while harnessing the power of THC. CBD alone is proven to be less effective for a variety of uses than when paired with THC. The “entourage effect” of combining these cannabinoids allows for results that are dramatically better than CBD or THC alone. To further enhance the Companion enjoyment, the Bacon flavor is remarkable whether you are consuming sublingually or adding this tincture to food. Word on the street is Companion on eggs and in Bloody Mary’s is tremendous. Who doesn’t love Bacon?
Vegetarians need not worry, the Bacon flavoring is all natural, however it is not derived from animals.

He’s a survivor. We see how’s he is doing on Monday and then vet. He won’t go through his cat door to get food and I’m assuming because it hurts his tail.
He seems happy to see me when he’s calm. I pet his head a little and just let him sit. If I rub his back it triggers the FHS. Also, his tail was covered in burrs several days ago. He let me comb them out no problem so I might have injured his tail a little. That can trigger FHS too.
The lady in that video is teasing her cat. You have to let the animal settle and stay settled.
When I first found him he had a huge wound on his leg. That could have also been from the FHS and why he was abandoned.
There is a real nice cat lost in there.
Hope your little buddy is better.
Update on my bi-polar cat. He is still hunkered down in his safe spot in the bushes. Three days now.. He comes out to visit me and he looks good (eating and drinking). But, as soon as he is away from cover and out in the yard he starts to obsess on his tail. I saw him take a nip at it but he missed and immediately cowered and headed back to cover in the bush. So, he doesn't want to bite his tail but I'm not sure he can stop himself. It is healing.
