Personally I think cats are better/happier mentally and physically for being let out except when they keep catching and eating snakes which gives them diarrhea that I then have to deal with which esp. sucks on the long hairs. Ugh.

My current house cats, the four I got last September, are not as healthy or well adjusted mentally as my barn cats who have lived outside (in the barn) their entire lives.

She is no worse for the wear and seems fully recovered! Now if she'd just lay off the snakes I'd be happy.

BTW - when I say my house cats are "not as healthy" what I mean is they seem to have a lot digestive issues. They were really bad when I got them and have settled down some but now that they are going outside they are tasting everything so maybe it's more diet than overall health still, I think they are not as robust as the barn cats. They certainly are a lot more jumpy than the barn cats and that is when they are inside house.

It’s disappointing but I can see where some animal advocates have strict unbendable rules for cats because of.potential affect on the environment and other species. I can respect that view. They told me I had to wait 30 days to chip my starving stray so I went to the pet club. No questions asked.

He is happy now. Never comes inside.

Hahaa, nope, as there is typically a home inspection done. Either the rescue wants to give the animal a home (so their cool with it) or they are just holding out for what they think is best.
I get that they don't want the cat to become lost again, but I honestly tell them that I provide such a great home, my pets don't leave. I can leave the gates open (it has happened once or twice) and the dogs sit by the gate. The cats go maybe 1 house away. They know they have it made and they are not leaving, but the volunteers don't want to hear it. Whatever.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

Clippers are your best friend!! Our long hair gets horrible mats heading into the shedding season - she always seems thankful after removal with clippers, and doesn't freak out at all when she sees them coming. Our longer haired geriatric dogs all get clipped around their anus - win-win!

I have an over-groomer - gives himself a Brazilian. However lately he's let a little fuzz grow.

I do that at every Petco/Petsmart I pass on the road, minus the naptime. Some of the employees look at me kinda strange when I buzz through and just check out the cats., p[et the dogs walking around, and leave but some don't, so there must be other weirdoes like me.

Our little buddy Jben is becoming like a reverse of Johnny Cash’s Cadillac. Every time he goes into the vet, he leaves bits behind.
    First trip was his nuts.
    Second was a toe.
Third was two more toes and six teeth.
Tuesday was three more toes, but his teeth were ok this time.

It’s like the worlds worst diet.

When he was a kitten, he was found out in the country on the side of the road. A well-meaning person picked him up and took him home and started calling around to see if anyone was missing a kitty.
Unfortunately, he was in the middle of renovating his house and had no floor vent covers on. Kitty got spooked, and ran down to hide in a floor vent. Then he got even more scared at the people trying to dog him out, and he started crawling away from them. Towards the furnace. So then the furnace kicked on and he was pretty much in it. He suffered burns to all his paws, as well as him tummy, back, ears, and bum/tail. His paws got the worst and his pads were fused together by the time they were able to tear the ductwork out and get to him. He doesn’t have a lot of nerves left in his tail, so it just usually hangs behind him and he won’t react if you step on it.

Because he has so much scar tissue in his pads and paws, his claws give him problems. Some of them are clubbed, some don’t retract, and some have fused to the bone.

But he’s a super happy lil guy and loves tummy scrubs. And puppies. He loves his dogs.

Bumble, the old man of the house, enjoying the winter gear pulled out of the closet a little early. Notice the clear packing tape on chair corners... sorry attempt at keeping the FOG from killing the furniture. Hasn’t wirked for 13 years.
