Question for the kitty people. Our previous cat was the worlds best mouser/hunter and I miss that as my current kittie is just 8lbs of cuteness and love. Just not a mean bone in her.
There is a cat for adoption locally and the comments were "she was found on the Navy base. Obviously lived with people at one time as she had a much to tight collar with no tag on". If she survived on the base, she is a killer.
My previous cat would never allow another cat in her territory. How can I see if the new and present cat can live together? And then there is getting the new cat use to the big pups. Am I crazy to try and bring another cat into my chill present set up?
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

Re: acceptance - unfortunately you don't know until you try. My barn cats have begrudgingly come to accept Iddy (new black kitten who showed up one day) but there is a lot of room for them to move about. My indoor/outdoor cat Alice have never accepted the new house kittens and won't. She hisses and growls and refuses to come in the house. Don't know what I'm going to do this winter. She is old and just skin stretched over bones at this point due to hyperthyroidism. I had her on meds but she had an incident of blood in urine and throwing up which I suspect was the meds so I took her off hence her weight loss. I might try CBD on her and see if it helps her weight and also mellows her out enough to come in the house and at least stay the night.

If that cat had been living on the base it's probably happier outdoors. Do you have an outbuilding that you can provide her a bed in? Also, if she's been living rough she'll know how to adjust to any dogs.

I've read that a slow introduction is helpful; let the residents smell a bed the new animal has slept in and the inverse. Keep the new animal in a room separate from the residents, then remove the new animal from that room and let the residents check the room out. Easing in is the word.

My wife doesn't want to rock the boat so I was told no. I am still going to go meet the cat on Monday and see what the volunteers think.

I should have said - you know the cat you have and how it behaves towards other animals so use that knowledge when assessing the new cat. Again.. if your cat is mainly indoors and this new one is used to free outdoor living it could work out. If you're going to try and have the cat indoors you could always use this - I've had some success with it:

Yes, I've been Christmas shopping online already. Bought the above for a friend with a grey cat along with a Cat Christmas book (it's a thing we do - ornaments and coordinating item all holiday oriented). Last year it was a gingerbread house kit and a gingerbread house ornament.

This is the book (about a lost grey cat).

We adopted these guys at 3 weeks old, feral mom got sick passed on, and they needed a home. Have been great, adapted well, play together all the time, and get along with our large dog. Great additions to the family

The Roomba can't keep up with the amount of leaves, grass, twigs, etc... he drags in the house. His fur is like velcro and he is always covered in stuff. That's after a brushing and less than 5 minutes outside:

Found this old sign I made after he disappeared a week after I brought him home. Still thought he was a female then... Hit feet still crack me up, he looks like a barrel perched on top of the longest skinniest leg...

    Was that for me?

He first showed up at my gf's house looking really haggard and she made the mistake of feeding him so he never left. I took one look at him and thought he needed to go to a vet because of mange. Turns out he was fine, that's what the breed is supposed to look like, very thin curly fur and exposed skin on belly/legs. The Humane Society refused to take him since "nobody would ever adopt a cat looking like that". My vet identified the breed (part Devon Rex) and the fact that his saggy gut was not because she had just given birth but because he used to be real fat and lost tons of weight.

He ran away during the 2-week introduction to my other cat and dog. A week later he just came back like nothing had happened. He was gone for weeks during the first year, would show up all beat up, sleep for 3 days, eat a ton, hang around for a week, then disappear. Now that I've moved he settled down a bit. Weirdest animal ever. By far the ugliest cat I've seen in person but he's impossible to dislike. Every time I go to the Humane Society for his shots I get a kick out of them scanning the chip and reading the name that pops up. They practically made me name him Ugly Kitty and now they get bent about it...

After doing the 3rd degree with the Rescue, they said "no way" once they found out I have dog doors that the cats always figure out with time.
Why are rescues such a PITA to a person that has only adopted animals and provided/provides a great home for the animals entire life? This is the third time a rescue told me no way and I have adopted 4 dogs and two cats in my life.

I've gone through this #meotoo shit about keeping the cats indoors. It's a new militantism for people that have too much time on their hands.

I get that it's dangerous for the cat, but it's also a quality of life issue. It's more important for wildlife, and I understand that argument better, but we lived in the city at the time and never saw anything but sparrows, crows and seagulls.

I remember at one spca, I chose an older cat that was going to be euthanized within the week. I was interviewed like a child molester and once I admitted that I let cats outside, the adoption was off the table according to the rescue. I remember pointing out that they were choosing to gas the thing rather than give it to me where it would have been loved and allowed to lead the life IT chose. But no.

Couldn't agree more. It blows my fucking mind that they'd rather put an old cat down that let it be adopted by someone who has a doggie door. Old cat will go on the occasional romp but usually not much further than the sunny spot at the end of the yard. Same for most females who seem to have a much more limited roaming range. But nooooooooooooooo, how dare one let a cat outside, it's unconscionable to expose them to the dangers of the outside world. For shit's sake, cats aren't even fully domesticated! Let them roam...

Wow denying cats homes because they might go outside.

    Lame

We told the rescue that our cats would go outside in our yard and adjacent open space. They didn’t have a problem with it.

It is totally lame but what can you do. Most of the rescues that I've spoken to in the past absolutely will not adopt to you if you say the cats going outside on occasion.
Super cute cat and would have been a perfect fit I think but what can you do
