KQ, kitties back yet?
KQ, kitties back yet?
watch out for snakes
Oh yeah. I got them back Monday afternoon. Boys acted like they didn't even know anything happened but poor little Meghan has been a bit uncomfortable. Finished up her Onsior yesterday (NSAID) and she is still getting Buprenorphine which I'm hoping to wean her off of starting today. She's been a bit bad about picking at her sutures so I had to get this which IMO is much better than the cone of shame:
So hate having my animals under the weather esp. when it from a medical procedure. All they know is they hurt not why or that it's going to be okay.

Our cat Annie seems to have a crush on Owen’s Pop Pop, who is not exactly a cat guy. He’s loving all the attention and is now having conversations with her. Usually she gets pissed about visitors but she’s all about him. Follows him around talking talking talking.

Doesn’t get much better than that.
Time to digitize those cds.

I got rid of all mine except the rare and special ones. Don’t miss the clutter.
It is def. time to start working towards letting the kittens out of the house before they destroy everything. In the past I've only had barn cats who were out from day one so I'm not entirely sure how to go about this. Yes these guys were born outside and lived out until I got them at about 6 weeks but they've been inside since and I'm a bit worried about just opening the door and letting them out. I do not have a fenced yard so they would basically be let out to run amok. On the plus side they won't get to a road, on the negative side there are fox, coyote, badger, owl. etc.
My tentative plan is to walk them on a leash (bought a couple kitty holsters) and show them around the immediate area around the house so they can get the lay of the land before being out on their own. I will probably do this over the course of several weeks until they and I feel comfortable that they know where home is and how to get back.
Thoughts?

Are they chipped?
Sounds like the plan. Hope all goes well.

KQ, hopefully your kitties are like ours. When adopted they are in, but over the course of time they figure out the dogs go out the doggie door and they try it too. They have always come back.
In your place (coyotes, foxes) I would put a kittie door in the side of the house with a fenced in area they could not get out of and the predators could not get into. Expensive and a hassle, but that is me for ya.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.
Too many skunks and strays to have a cat door into the house plus I would hate to cut into my beautiful solid Fir doors. I do have a shop with cat access. I do not plan to allow them to stay out overnight, just during the day. It will be nice to not have to worry about escapees when I'm going in and out of the house too. Right now I tend to only exit/enter through doors that open into rooms that have interior doors into the main house that can be closed off (i.e a mud room and office). I don't use the front or rear door at present.

My friend had a family of raccoons get in his house while he was gone on vacation through a cat door. They fkn demolished the interior of the house. Ate all of his expensive fish and wrecked the fish tank, opened the fridge and freezer and cabinets and spread food everywhere, etc. It was an amazing scene. He caught them in the act. And shot them in the house.

KQ, I think you'd be fine letting them out. They've been inside long enough to know that's where the food, litter box and warmth is. But keeping an eye on the the first couple of times is a good idea.
Agreed, but I would still have a 10' foot tall fence to keep them close and the predators out. Kitty door on the side of the house is easy to do on a window, have a landing outside window for them to use for going in and out and fence in that side of the house. Easy to do, just a small expense for materials and a honey to do it for you.

Outdoor cats are happier. I’ve never been able to keep a cat inside. They always won that battle
Chip controlled cat door works well but you’d need to chip them
