I feel ya, we brought a new kitten in when one of the brothers died 12 years ago. It wasn't good, and it hurt. But when he passed, we grabbed another kitten, and the two have been buddies ever since. If Alice is making new buds, she'll be fine. You did a good thing keeping the red4 together.

Yea I thought of that also but we have boxes that go a long ways towards protecting them from Great Horned owls and other predators.

In fact that could be the problem- they may need cleaned. Guess I'll head up a ladder tomorrow and look.

Just soaking up the love on this thread. Thanks for all the stories & photos. My cat, "Bunny," is at least 15 now, on hyperthyroid & kidney meds. I hope he sticks around for a while.

Pilot, the Thompson family cat, never made it back to his Santa Rosa home one night in 2007. "It was not like him to wander and we were hopeful that he would return soon but he didn't," Jennifer Leigh Thompson told SFGATE. "He had always been a very friendly, social cat so the chances of him being found were high, we thought." But the Thompsons were never able to find Pilot, and when they moved to Colorado in 2010, they thought for sure that they would never see their beloved cat again. "He is a very special cat and the loss of him was really devastating," Thompson said.

But now, after 10 years, Pilot is finally reuniting with his family after being discovered by a good Samaritan in the aftermath of the Tubbs Fire.

An unnamed individual found Pilot in a neighborhood close to where the Thompsons used to live. The cat has extensive burns on his ears and paws, and was severely dehydrated when he was found. The individual brought Pilot to Petcare Veterinary Hospital, where veterinarians gave Pilot treatment and scanned for a microchip, leading them back to the Thompsons.

"I was in shock when I first heard that Pilot was at Petcare," Thompson said. "I don't know who [the good Samaritan] is but I hope I get to meet her. I'm getting our cat back because she cared."

Thompson will travel to Santa Rosa next week to pick up Pilot and bring him back to Colorado. Petcare has been sending Thompson photos of Pilot, who continues to receive treatment on his burns.

"He's still the same sweet, friendly guy," Thompson said. "I'm pretty excited. It's been hard not being able to see him immediately."

Awww that poor kitty's paws! Nice happy ending. Had a dream about my Bratwurst last night. Wish he would come back but I know that isn't in the cards for me.

He's a good looking cat. We had a 14 y.o. cat with the same thyroid issue. Once we got her to take her medication consistently, she bounced right back.

It sure is tough being a cat....

I know someone else who had a cat looking exactly like that named Chet.

How’d you end up with two linked usernames?
