Sister had really bad weekend.
She had fluid in her chest and abdomen and admitted to Cornell University Veterinary Specialists.
She spent weekend in oxygen chamber and saw a cardiologist (yes, there is a Veterinary Cardiologist) yesterday.
He confirmed she almost died from a heart attack and her heart failure is most likely caused by her on going hyperthyroidism.
For now she's on 6 different meds twice a day.
She is coping well and her symptoms are improving.
She needs X-ray and blood work next week to check her fluid and blood clots.
Also needs to see the specialist again a month for eco and further evaluation.
She is 17 and we've been together since 2000.
You would think that's long enough time, but I still would love to have more time with her.
Now I know we don't have years together.
How much ever days, weeks, months we have left, I'm going to celebrate and cherish them with her.
My focus is her wellbeing, quality of life and pain management.
For now I'm just happy she's back home and comfortable.
Get her some fresh cooked chicken. Best wishes.
I would let her go if she's in pain and has no quality left in her life.
I got her pet insurance right before her cut off age without any preexisting conditions.
That was 5 years ago and now it's playing a crucial part for her care.
Our doctors' visits, scans, tests, treatments and hospitalization in ICU over the weekend came around $4,500.
But the insurance is paying more than half.
Now that her deductible has met, she has 90% coverage except consultations.
I came to this country 1999.
For 17 years she's been my family and home to go back to.
Now it's my turn to be there to provide best I can for her until end of her life.
I won't extend her life for me.
But as long as she's eating, drinking, playing, sleeping and purring with no pain, she's not going anywhere.
++Vibes, EnEmSee.
We had good luck with Baby Food for our cats, when they didn't wanna eat.
Turkey usually worked.
Good Luck.
...Remember, those who think Global Warming is Fake, also think that Adam & Eve were Real...
So sorry Nutmeg, good luck.
Thank you.
Small fun fact of out this ordeal.
Turned out human and animal share the same cardiac medications.
There isn't any special heart meds for pets, so Sister gets her refill from CVS or Walgreens.
Took her heart diseases, but she is now equally treated as a human.
There is a CVS account for Sister Choi.
Condolences. Our old rescue is also faltering badly. She's not keeping weight on despite the daily pill regimen.
The vet gives us shit for not paying for more care, but, while we love the thing, I just can't see spending thousands on treatments.
Every day is another consideration for what's the best for her. She has these weird thyroid related (bloodclot likely) seizures more frequently when she curls up or staggers usually accompanied by donkey like howling. She had a bunch last week and this week seems a little better, but spends as much time in laps as she can which was never her character before.

We all go through different things and have different stories to tell.
I can't tell you what right and what's wrong.
Sounds like you are juggling with a lot of other things at the same time.
Hang in there.
I hope everything works out for you.
vibes for sister and nutmeg
watch out for snakes
My one female likes to drink from toilet.
I think its about splashing the water as much as anything.
watch out for snakes
Toilet water won't hurt her. If she wants and needs the water let her drink. Bones the Bengal is getting old and basically swims in the toilet these days.
The one he likes "hand wave" motion flush and his tail makes it flush occasionally. He loves that..
Fatty loved puddle water. Most cats like puddle water. It's like wine for cats.
The very first post in this thread mentions my late kittah's love of cleaning products. I couldn't keep him out of the bath or shower if it had been cleaned. Little dude loved to get high off the chemicals in there. I'd worry that your cat is not just splashing and drinking, but looking for a fix. Everyone says, "not my kitty," until one day they are all grown up, angsty, sneaking out at night, hanging with the wrong crowd and looking for their next score.
The way I get Bones to come home? Turn the sprinkler on. I'll find him happily spritzing in the mist licking his lips.
Walked in as an addict, walked out as a dealer.
I strongly believe she was admitted next to wrong crowd.
That Persian in next cell with kidney problem definitely seemed shady.
Or, the smell of her freshly cleaned water bowl reminds her of the sanitary vet that she wants nothing to do with.
