MSI MAKES 2008 PHOTO & VIDEO CONTENT AVAILABLE TO ATHLETES, FAMILIES, AND FANS

Anyone else get this email? I'm kinda interested as I competed in my first comp this year, and would kinda like to see the footy...Problem is its super pricey...$150 for 3 clips is pretty expensive, espeically considering I only had one run, and fell...Maybe some of us can go in together and order 3 or more clips, and split the cost? I dont really wanna pay 50 bucks for a 1 minute video of me crashing, but maybe we can figure something out.

Heres the email for all yall that didnt get it:

"Dear Athletes, Families, Friends, and Fans of Big Mountain Skiing &
    Snowboarding:

Thank you for participating in the 2008 Subaru U.S. Freeskiing Series / Freeskiing World Tour and The North Face Masters! For the first time in the history of MSI, we are making our video and photo event coverage available to you—the athletes, families, friends, and fans of big mountain skiing and snowboarding.

Mountain Sports International has documented big mountain skiing and snowboarding competitions for over a decade, but this year we stepped it up and successfully produced live web coverage of our major events. Snowbird, Crested Butte (no Masters), and Alyeska's events were broadcast live on www.usfreeskiing.com and www.thenorthface.com/masters. The freeskiing events at Squaw Valley, Telluride, and Jackson Hole were also covered, but not recorded and broadcast in the same live-show format as the other events, but often included POV cameras, interviews, etc. All of this footage—including your competition runs, interviews, and podium appearances—are now available to you!

We’ve already received dozens of requests from athletes and family for video footage and photos. Due to the high cost of producing the content and the lengthy process of searching, databasing, transferring, and shipping your individual photos/footage, we will be charging a reasonable fee for this content.

For video requests, we are offering a wide range of final products,
including everything from raw footage on miniDV to quicktime files on DVD to custom edited video bios on a video player you can embed in your website.

For photo requests, we are offering hi-res and web-ready photos delivered to you on a CD/DVD. The majority of all events were photographed, but we can’t guarantee we have a photo of you. Obviously if your photo appeared in one of the photo players then we have your photo. But even though we might not have posted a photo of you, there’s a good chance we have you in our archive files. (World Tour qualifier days will be the most difficult to find). We are only offering digital copies of the photos, but the hi-res files will be more cost-effective for you in the end as you can print as many of the photos as you like and can avoid additional shipping/handling charges.

The attached price sheet (pdf) will allow you to choose the video or photo
package that best suits your needs and price range.

After you decide what type of package you want, please fill out the attached “request form” (word doc) and send it back to:

    Mike Reff
    mreff@mtsports

We will then research your request and then email a status report. At that
point, you will also receive an invoice for your order. Once the invoice is paid, we will finish processing your order.

Please feel free to respond to this email with additional questions about
this process and these new services.

Thanks again for another great season in the mountains. We hope you are
    having a fantastic summer!

    Sincerely,

    Mountain Sports International"

C'mon, MSI. Make that shit available for free. People already spent all their money to do it in the first place.

    Yep, snowbird. Day 2 qualifiers.

And I agree, why the hell can't they put all the clips up online for download, or, if they dont want to mess with the bandwidth, put that shit on youtube. People are already paying a couple hundred just to enter, and to sign up for the US freesking org, and on top of all that however much it costs to get to these comps...

    $150 for 3 clips...are you serious?

Is video, especially many hours of freezing your ass off on the hill for little or no pay, easy and cheap? No.

I'm kind of technologically inept and don't know how to DL from that media player. I also don't have the money to pay for that footy, especially since other competitors got clips earlier for free. I realize they're trying to run a business, but if you do qualies, then pay for the world tour, its over 200$... plus your travel and accom, can we at least get the photos/vid for cheaper? or by donation in form of alcohol next year? I talked to the camera guys in AK after my run, and emailed etc, but I know had a pretty rough time up there...

Except no, it's not. SOME of the footage is on there, but not what I'm looking for, which is the snowbird day 2 qualifiers...

MSI sent out a new email:

    Dear Athletes and Friends,

It has come to the attention of Mountain Sports International that
there is confusion regarding our recent release explaining our new
photo and video request program. This service, which will put
professional grade competition images and footage of athletes in the
hands of the athletes, fans, family, and friends for a nominal fee, is
being offered for the benefit of our competitors and the benefit of
the sport of freeskiing. At best, we are merely trying to cover the
cost of the search, edit, production, and shipping costs associated
with the long hours required to produce the requested pieces. Not to
mention the countless hours and high production costs already spent on-
    site creating this content.

If you are unable to purchase this footage, there are alternative
    options:

    • Embed video off www.usfreeskiing.com onto your website, myspace, or
    facebook page

    • Download video to your mobile phone or ipod off www.usfreeskiing.com

    • These options don’t allow you to have hires footage of just your
runs singled out, but it is a free service we make available, in
addition to already promoting you through the videos and photos hosted
    on www.usfreeskiing.com on a year-round basis.

Over the past 11 years, MSI has committed 100% of all sponsor, athlete
entry fees, and lift ticket revenues back to the sport of freeskiing
and the freeskiing events in the form of prize money, event coverage
and exposure for the sport, athletes, and sponsors. Not to mention
basic event expenses such as insurance, transportation, parties,
branding, and awards. Additionally, MSI has donated virtually all the
year-round staff time (countless hours) and efforts to organize,
promote, and produce the freeskiing events.

MSI produces freeskiing events because we are passionate about the
sport and believe in the energy and spirit of the community of the
athletes who participate in the events. Our sport of freeskiing is
small in comparison to most other action and adventure sports—we do
everything we can to properly fund the sport and you the athletes,
while at the same time attempting to create a healthy and long-lasting
    future.

MSI had a major hand in establishing the IFSA in 1996 and supports the
mission and its efforts to the fullest extent. We will continue to do
everything we can to support the athletes and the IFSA and encourage
you to speak to both the IFSA and MSI about your concerns, thoughts
and ideas. Please know that there is no “off season” for us—we are
always here, always working on the freeskiing events, each and every
    day throughout the year.

We are committed to this sport as friends and family and will continue
to invest our time, energy and business resources to producing the
very best freeskiing events in the world and the content that captures
    the essence of your talents.
    Sincerely,

    Mountain Sports International
