You've got to be shitting me.....

    That fucking blows.

Some good advice about what to do following a bike theft can be found in Arty's post on the same subject.

I'm buying a National Bike Registry sticker for my MTB tomorrow. At least then there's a chance if it gets stollen.

Call area mountain bike shops and have them look out for it. You might also search Craigslist for a few weeks to see if it comes up there.

I assume you've already reported it stolen to the police.

    That sucks

The world is so screwed up. It sounds like you had your baby in the backseat of your car. That sucks even more, that they busted your window and nabbed your wheels. I would be so pissed, I would want to kill that bastard. I got renters insurance, and hopefully that would cover something like that, but since we live in a crazy world, I guess if the bike is in the car we got to bolt that bitch down. What a pain for us, that just want to ride our 2 wheel machines.

    Good luck catching that punk.

Seriously. Is it coming to the point where we need to lock our bikes down inside of our already locked cars???

    That's seriously fucked.

Where did it happen? Definitely file a po-po report, then keep a lookout on CL and eBay.

Depending on how much time ya got, maybe ask the po po if they will dust it for prints....

    You're fucking kidding me!!!!

I would tell you that this sucks, but that would be the understatement of the century. Stealing skis is one thing, but a bike is just a little more expensive. Thus I have reserved a new level of hell just for bike thieves.

As for advice, make a flyer with a picture of the bike (you can get this from either the Specialized website, or if it's say last year's bike color from the mtbr.com review site or google) and a listing of the components. Also list the serial number. If you didn't write down the serial number, call Specialized's warranty dept. Trek/Gary Fisher found mine cause I was too dumb to write it down.

Call the local police and file a report also. Be sure to call both the city police and county sherriff. If you don't have the flyer ready, tell them you're making one and will send it to them ASAP. Also take this flyer in to every LBS in your area. All of these guys were very simpathetic (many comments of "bike thieves should be shot") and happy to post my flyer in the shop in case some dumbass brings the bike in. Another good idea would be to deliver it to the local pawn shops too. Also, try your local swap meet this weekend. Don't forget to check eBay and craigslist too.

I'll email you a copy of my flyer.

As for windows, they're not too bad. The front windshield in my Jeep was only $100. Definitely price shop though. I had quotes of up to $250.

I feel for you man. Good luck!!!

Bike thieves should be shot. It's that simple.

I'm really sorry to hear about the stolen bike. I hope you (or Jonny Law) catches the perp.

Good luck with that. The times I have had things stolen they wouldn't do any forensic work because the cost to do the work was more then the value of the items stollen or they didn't have time.

    i'm an idiot

until I read a few replies I thought this post was about someone on a stumpjumper running into your car, breaking the window, and we should be on the lookout for this crazed window braking biker.

    Sucks that didnt happen.

Screw bike thieves and reading comprehension!
