    Camera Case?

I know some of you folks travel around with your cameras. I bought a pretty nice camera today and want to keep it safe. I have no idea how this thing works but I'd like to keep it from getting broken somehow.

Anyone have certain brands or types of camera bags/cases they like? Also, seeing as I am a photography jong... What kind of lens do I need to get fairly close up to subjects? The camera came with an effectively 27-105mm lens. I'm thinking I need a bit bigger?

    Thanks for any answers.

Nikon D70, digital SLR. I did a bit of research before buying it, at one time I was convinced I wanted the digital rebel. After every review gave the nod to the Nikon I opted to spend the extra cash.

I've taken about 75 shots so far with it. It seems to do everything but make me dinner. I do get the feel that the supplied lens won't get close enough for truly epic photos.

I like Lowe Pro camera cases. Here's the one I use right now: http://www.adorama.com/LPPRBK.html

It's very compact, maybe too compact in some cases. But it will fit my SLR with a decent size lens and some room left over for extra film, filters, etc. There's also room for a second lens, but it would have to be a fairly small one. Of course you don't need room for film with your digi!

Not necessarily. Maybe something out to about 200 mm would be nice, but you can get some good shots with the range of the lens you have.

for skiing and stuff, Id go with one of the lowe pro top load zooms, takes some time to get used to, but once you do it is the most comfortabple case to ski with. The camera backpacks are nice, but I wouldnt bother getting one unless you intend to buy a lot of gear. the Top load zoom, depending on what size of bag you get will easily cary the camera body and a few lenses.

I'll pile on the LowePro bandwagon too. I've got a few of their cases and a backpack. They're all bomber and easy to customize.

28-80 wide angle, you can't live w/o it.

Id avoid the larger Lowe´s too. Carry systems are ok for short carrys in city, but otherwise they are not that good (used Lowes and Tenbas for the last 10 years).
Good (for skiing) camera rugsacs you find from Ortovox and Burton.
If i use my smaller digi SLR on my trips, i usually dont use any "camera" rugsacs. I have cutted from foam a remoable liner to use with my Dakine or Khamski. Or even used my fleece as a wrap around the camera.
Offcourse, if you have to handle several lenses and other stuff, thats not gonna work, but with one lense (attached to the body) it´s adequate.
I have never been good with facts.
