    Wind River Range WY

I'm planning on loading a couple horses up and do a weeklong pack trip in a few weeks. I'm looking at a couple possibilities.....pinedale side up to elbow
lakes or Lake Prue. Or Lander side up to Wykee and Lake Solitude.
Any other suggestions or hot tips?

For the Lander side, WYsplitride is a great guy to ask - he lives in Lander and knows those mountains well (both summer and winter). He's had a few Wind River Range TR's recently in ski & snowboard.

Either side should be fishin'. mid elevations are prolly the best right now. Goldens should be startin' to get rowdy!

Never have caught a Golden. Went to a lake in the Snowy Range that supposedly had some but never saw anything.
I know there's probably alot of changes from what I read about years ago. Is the fishing holding up well in the high country or is there alot of pressure?

The pressure depends on where and when you go. Tough to tell though... I wouldn't worry too much about that, you're going to the Winds not RMNP! If you go, just make sure you come back with some pics.

Go as late a possible, the skeeters can be miserable in July. Give the guys at the Fish and Game office a call in Lander (307 332-2688) they can help you find the right lake/drainage with the species that interest you the most. Give a call if you need anything while in the area, PM sent.

Adipose will prolly shoot me for saying this but there are LOTS of incredible creeks flowing into some of the lakes in the region. Many are still gushing goo. Others are ready to roll....

there's no fish in the winds. a few pockets of tiny brookies down low is about it.
