sweet stuff. is that with the new rig?
It's a mix of the smaller heli and the larger heli. But it's all Sony HC5.
I'll start shooting with the Sony EX1 at the end of July. It'll be nice to have 720p at 60fps as an option.

very nice. Trackhead, on the topic of frame rates, I have the HC-7 and thought the frame rate could be adjusted to 120fps or faster. does it not stay in 1080, or does recording in 60i mean something else?. I'm still trying to figure out how shooting at higher frame rates helps out in creating slow motion.
I'm not familiar with the HC-7 so much. But being a tape based HDV camera, I'm not sure it can overcrank and retain resolution.
The EX1 shoots 1080 progressive, and because it records to cards, can under/over crank and retain 1080p.
Overcranking is better for slowmo because you have more information to work with when you drag your clip out. If you slow down 1080i too much (>50% or so), it starts to get artifact, or poor motion signature. 60fps slowed down will retain a smooth look. It's essentially what TGR and others are doing when they are shooting 16mm.

That's mighty purdy there chief.
The Griz
I don't know who told you that, but it's simply not true. You can turn on a shutter that is 1/120 of a second, but the video is still recorded at 60i. It's just recording the information from the chip for a shorter period of time.1080 is the number of vertical lines in the picture. 60i is the number of interlaced fields in a second of video. If you were to take those 1080 lines and number them sequentially from top to bottom the Odd lines get recorded first and the Even lines second. Thus in interlaced video two fields equal one frame, and that's why interlaced video is smoother than progressive, but also less crisp, especially when paused....does it not stay in 1080, or does recording in 60i mean something else?. I'm still trying to figure out how shooting at higher frame rates helps out in creating slow motion.
In Progressive video (like 24p, 30p) the whole frame gets recorded (and played back) as one, so the relative motion is slower. This is the cause of the "strobing" look in 24p, giving it that filmlike appearance, since film is also shot at 24 fps.
This does not mean that the film is exposed for the full 1/24th of a second.

From Sony:
Coupled with our newly developed signal processing LSI, the PMW-EX1 produces truly exceptional images in 1080p, 720p and 1080i HD.
I just got back from the studio in town and was flying their EX1. A bit of a pucker factor for me, flying someones property. All went well though. Flew it around the parking lot for ten minutes. They were pretty psyched.
I didn't have time to monkey with the camera. Just slapped it on and flew it. Either way, shoots a nice image for a camera that the heli is lugging around.
Nice footage, looks like you are getting a little more stable with that thing. You gotta fix that gangsta lean to the right you got goin on though![]()
