    pinched nerve/stinger

So I was playing in a rugby tourney the other day, went to tackle a guy with my right shoulder, he shifted to his right, my head smoked his pelvis and my neck bent down rather severely. So I was lying on the ground with the numb, tingly feeling in my neck and head, characteristic of a stinger, which I've had before. Thing is, the feeling didn't go away. It still hasn't and it's been about a week. I got checked out at the clinic, x-rays of my spine, the like and they said they believe it's a pinched nerve in my C2 (the back left side of my head is numb) and that it should dissipate. It's quite a piss-off though cause I can't do anything, no work, no gym and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this kinda shit, how long it takes to go away, etc.

this could be solely a C2 nerve root issue, but if your head was flexed forward during the injury it may have involved the greater and lesser occipital nerves, which paritally arise from the C2, but also pass throught the sub-occipital muscles (under the base of the head). If it does not improve shortly then there may be other factors involved. Good Luck.
    Nothing clever to say.

sounds like occipital nerve to me as well. If you head hit him it could be a contusion to the nerve or the spinal flexion stretched it or both. If your x-rays cleared your c-spine then it should go away with time. I have seen some true stingers (brachial plexus stretch or compression) take several weeks to go away. Meaning no more tingling in the distribution to the effected nerve and return of full motor response.

I've had a "pinched nerve" in my neck (C7ish) for a few weeks. Started with sore shoulder, then some numbness and tingling in my right index and middle fingers. Doc prescribed a 6 day regimen of steroids (some form of prednisone called methiprednisolone , or something like that). Steroids didn't seem to make much difference. Been to PT a few times now and that's not helping either. Not sure what to do next.

In any case, if you're ever really in this situation make sure you at least bargain in a couple of fluffers.

I went in to get checked out today and the doctor flipped shit and decided to send me to Van for a CT scan, really wish they woulda thought that was important a week ago... Sure enough it turns up nothing, so I'm no further ahead than I was before and I still can't feel the back of my head...
