    Manitoba TR

I was up in Manitoba fishing the Winnipeg river system last week. The fishing was so-so for what it should be right now. My photo skills just plain suck so no real quality pics. The bassin' was soild the last day..when the damn camera battery died. The Pikin' was average the entire trip, as was the Walleye fishing. Walleye fishing with a fly rod is usually pretty tough though...A few nice fish...

    Here's a few:
    Camp

    It wasn't warm

My best Walleye ever on a fly rod!

As I mentioned, Pike fishing wasn't the greatest. The spawn was over and the water temp was still too cold for the big fish to come to the shallows. We did manage to boat a few in the 37-39" range, (roughly 18-20lbs).

That's all worth posting, I think. One of these days I'll learn how to use a camera AND bust it out.

Those are some sweet fish by New York lake/pond standards...NICE!

Pikes are freaky little wolf hunters of the shallows in my local pond. I'd love to strap a headcam on one of those guys.

^^ I love doing that on my lake... I'll have a smaller gill smack a fly and I'll pull it in really slow. Watching for the logs to start rising and give chase. You've never seen a gill swim so fast in your life.

You bet! Got that one in about 10 feet of h20 on a yellow lead eyed, (#2), bugger. I like to throw about a 1/3 of a twister tail on the shank of the hook too. They like the action. Bouncing those things off the bottom with short strips.....you will get Walleyes in the boat. If you're in Walleye countrty, of course.
