Seriously they are easier than 3's just a little scarier, just look back maybe throw your arms back too and tuck your knees if the jump isn't too big. Try learning gainers off of diving boards, that will be the key

backs are not easyier than 3s, no way man. i learned my first 3 when i was 12 and still havent mastered the back yet. of course our snow isnt the stuff to be failing on for backs if you know what im saying. i think 7s are up there with backs. landed my first 7 this winter and boy oh boy was i smiling from ear to ear. on another note sometimes i just go out there ans say f$%k it, and then throw my body into the air and see what happens. sometimes good stuff, and sometimes not so good stuff.
still keepin' it real for the ladies!
Once you get it dialed I think throwing a back would be easier than a 7. I usually end up so off axis by the end of a 7 I might as well go for an invert in the process.
I'm another total suckass gaper with backflips. I can throw fronts and even stalled out lawn darts, but something about gainers doesn't click with me. I think the whole frontflip thing is a lot easier. Even if you land totally inverted in soft snow your rotation will help you pull through it.
I would second the diving board idea. Or even try to throw gainers off cliffs into water. It gives a much better idea of what it feels like.
Don't kid yourself, it still pretty easy to fuck yourself up from crashing in the bubbles if you don't land on your feet. I've seen chipped teeth, torn rotator cuffs and concusions.Originally posted by pointedem
i heard it still hurts even with the bubbles.. i have a hard time believing that, though.
