    Winter Pack - BCA Stash Alp40 or ... ?

Need to replace my BD Covert 32L w/ Avalung. It's just too small for any kind of backcountry touring, even for 1-day tours where I have to carry an extra pair of running shoes / hiking shoes.

I'm looking for something in the 40+L range but more importantly TOP LOADING!
Bc.com has the BCA Stash Alp40 on sale for just over $100 bucks, seems like a great pack... Any reviews, info, recommendations on that pack?

    Other options?
    o BD Anarchist 42L w/ Avalung (expensive!!)
    o Arc'teryx Silo (expensive!!)
o DAKINE Poacher Pack (only 38L, good price)
o DAKINE Guide Pack (49L, good price, I like it...)
o Black Diamond Revelation Backpack (45L, ok price)

Hit me with some recommendations fellow mags!

I have the BCA Alp 40 pack. It came with the really cool nalgene compatible hydration system that hooks right up to your wide mouth bottle. this is really handy so you dont have to deal with hydration bladders, and so you can just put it in the dishwasher if it gets gross. The pack is very nice, waterproof, and top loading like you said. I havent been able to figure out how to attach ski's diagonally, only a-frame. overall I really like this pack, but its only big enough for 1-day tours. I havent been able to use it for an overnight trip

The Anarchist 42 is considerably bigger than the Alp 40. I can get an overnight load in the A42, but not in the Alp 40. Also note that the A42 fits a different torso size than the A32, so you should try it on to make sure it fits. The A42 is about a half pound heavier than the Alp 40, after I removed the avalung removed for the summer season.

I have the BCA Alp 40 and love it. The light frame makes carrying heavy loads (skis and boots in spring) much nicer than any non-frame pack. Avy tool pockets and side zip are nice, too

SkiBum, put your tails in one of the ice axe loops and strap the tips to one of the webbing loops on the lid with one of these

OR tie a small loop of cord around the tightening strap on the opposite shoulder strap and strap the skis to that. This way is more secure.
