Knobb Creek Kentucky Straight Bourbon. Not very nice stuff. Harsh, varnish, high proof and blended from enough varieties to give a good hangover.

I tried to rescue a wee dram with some 7up and the lingering taste in my mouth, 2 hours later, is enough to put me off drinking Bourbon for the rest of my life.

Wife thinks there might be a way to use it for cooking or marinating.

Got a bottle of Jameson "Caskmates" the other day for my office whiskey club that is aged in stout barrels. Has a lot of chocolate notes on the nose, but just a hint as you drink it. Never thought they could make Jameson smoother, but they did with this.

Lots of people in the club drink really obscure stuff, and joke about the mainstream distillers, but amazingly this bottle is disappearing much faster than the others.

Good stuff. Great as a boilermaker with a stout too

I take it back on the Knobb Creek. It just needs a glass mate like disorono liquer and a extra splash of water. The awful flavor makes nice with sweet citrus and a touch of honey (not Maple Syrop).

You can avoid the awful flavor by not using the amaretto.

    After read

This really caught my eye when you first posted it. I love stout. I love whiskey. Beer aged in whiskey barrels is certainly relevant to my interests. But Whiskey aged in the barrels that the stout was aged in, after whiskey was aged in them takes it to a whole new level. I've kept my eye out for this, and finally found it.

Smooth Smooth Smooth. I couldn't wait to get home to try it, so I opened the bottle and took a swig while I was waiting for the bus. Sweeter than I expected, sort of toasty caramel, with a slightly bitter hoppy flavor that lingered in my mouth. No burn whatsoever. I've never swigged something from a paper bag that was so enjoyable. Once home, I tried it on ice, which mellowed it out a little bit. This is my new sipping whisky. I might try it with some club soda and ginger syrup I made, but for now I'm completely content to have it on its own. I've heard that it was a pretty limited release, so I'll probably go out and get a couple more before in case it gets hyped like northern harvest, which I am running low on. Unfortunately it's a bit pricier than I'd like. ~$40CDN after taxes.

Thought this was cool. How the color and volume changes at it ages in the cask.

Jefferson's Ocean - 3rd Voyage was like drinking salted caramel. One of the most unique bourbons I've ever tasted. Delicious.

The following Voyages have been good too but nothing like that 3rd. You can see how the end result can vary so widely given the 'aging' process.

Cool. Reminds me of several Sauternes displays I've seen.

I think anything that gives you the gag reflex the first time you try it (whiskey, cigarettes, among others), you can pretty much figure it just ain't gonna be good for you. That's your body trying to get that message into your thick head.

    A good wine...no gag reflex.

    A decent ale....no gag reflex.

    Edibles.....no gag reflex.

usually can’t go wrong with Auchentoshan - it’s a legit single malt scotch (so scotch snobs can’t turn up their nose at it), it’s not peated (some whiskey drinkers don’t enjoy the smokey flavor of peated scotch - but lovers of peated scotch will still likely enjoy non-peated whisky), and it’s distilled 3 times (versus the usual 2 times for most all other single malt scotch) so is often smoother than its age (and price) indicates.

Any idea what type of whiskey? Bourbon, single malt, rye? It makes a bit of a difference.
