anyone in on the Gmail beta?

and want to "invite a friend"?

I'd like to get one of those accounts to use while I'm away and can't access email to delete junk... right now I get so much that if I don't check it every few days I run out of space.

no but, fyi yahoo ramped up a bit to compete and any spam now doesn't count toward your limits

Yea, as long as they CATCH the spam... anything that doesn't get labelled as bulk mail still counts.

They say they're going to up the storage to 100MB, but that was over a month ago and nothing's happened yet.

I might be able to get you in on it. Let me see if I can get a rapid response from a friend who's part of that schindig.

Though if your only problem is an email filling up, try just setting up a new one and only give out the new addy to appropriate people (ie start the spam clock over).

This is true... my idea was to get a gmail address and then never change it again (well, at least not until google dies of old age or is eaten, which should be a reasonable amount of time). If I can't manage that the temporary temporarily spam free email address is probably a good short-term solution.

If you have an in at google, though, that would be great.

Yea, I looked at that... but I've heard it isn't all that reliable.

Heh....but hotmail's so god damn easy. With a simple add-in to windows messenger it shows how many messges there are in your inbox. Delete them from there. I'm gettting like 20+ spams a day and unless it's a week or so away from the computer I never seem to have a problem. Plus it encourges checking your email regularly.

Unless they would make it a .net compatable thing...yeah right....

Hotmail doesn't really suck. It's reliable, and it's caught every piece of spam i've ever gotten.

If you're still looking someone's just hooked me up with a Gmail account. I'd gladly send you an invite when/if I get the opportunity to.

    Want some of mine?

I still get the occasional bit of spam w/o an unsubscribe link, but I've found that unsubscribing to those "opt-in" ones is effective after a few weeks.
