Oct Surf trip location / newborn friendly?

Soo, Mrs Comish is gonna pop our first bambino out at the beginning of August and since she has time off, we are thinking of a little surf trip for a week or so in October. This is contingent on me bending my knee after today's surgery...

What place would you go to with a 1 or 2 month old baby in tow to chill, ride some waves, and hopefully not get gnarly food poisening. I'm thinking Montezuma's revenge is not such a good plan for a 1 or 2 month old, but then again I don't know much about this dad stuff so I could be wrong.

We are more into mellow point / reef breaks, not looking for Indo barrel perfection, but rather more like a warm, mellow Malibu (ok, keep dreaming I know). Been to Costa Rica a few times so wouldn't mind something different but I feel comfortable taking a new born there, so anything else similar? How about El Salvador? Always wanted to surf there??? Would you take a newborn bambino there?

Congrats! With a newborn in tow, I'd recommend a first world surf destination. Like 'Stralya, mate.

Oct is a good time to go. There's still consistent S swells and weather is starting to warm up.

as punani says, first world destination would be the call. oz would be good, or pasta point @ maldives for a bit more $$$ and luxury and perfection and less crowds and more sun and more relaxing and still good waves?

or maybe closer to home? i bet the caribbean would be starting to turn on with some decent swells in october. barbados? PR? DR? bahamas?

now that i think about it if you like to surf in rubber, why not come to europe? october can be great for waves and the water's still warm(ish). Ireland, SW England, France, Spain, Portugal all offer great waves and nice weather in latter 2 or 3 countries. you'd get away with a 3/2 in all cases.

    oh and congrats!

    D,

Congrats on the new one. I just got back from Cabo yesterday, and I know Costa Azul would be perfect for surf (I'll post pics later). You would be suprised on how many little ones I saw at the hotels, or around town with their parents. The resorts are very safe there.
Whoa, what you gotta say?? Whoa, girls turn 18 every day!!!

Congrats....sayulita maybe? I've taken a newborn to Mexico before...it pays to take the Pack & Play and maybe find a place with a kitchen so you can cook some of your own food.

qantas/ANZ have bassinets on the bulkheads, the kids seem to do ok.

edit: if you are ok with a wetsuit, new zealand. north island is a slightly shorter flight than oz, first world living, less agressive locals than oz.

Actually, believe it or not, this is Mrs. Comish's idea after the last few months of doing nothing due to my knee and her belly. She will be off work and we can't go skiing then so she thought we should go on a surf trip. Just another reason why no Indo barrels as Mrs. Comish's surfing, and realistically neither is mine, isn't up to shallow reef breaks. Besides she feels like I'm owed a killer trip after missing ski trips to Interior BC and another to Yurp this past winter due to my fucked knee.

She wants to go international as well. Comes with marrying a German I guess, but I'm not complaining.

I'm worried about Montezuma's revenge in both Cabo and Sayulita although both are places we have wanted to go. Like I said, I might be being a little paranoid given my Jong Dad status...

Australia is also on the top of our Int'l travel list so I like that idea. Now I have to get 2 weeks off because I'm not flying that far for only one week.

I 2nd the Euro trip. Portugal, Spain, France - fall swells. Good eats.

Morocco is you want a bit more adventure

Sayulita is pretty tame surf for a killer surf trip. I'd stay away, IMO.

I'm not trying to discourage you but I couldn't imagine going on an international surf trip when our first was a month old. There were so many unexpected things to deal with and we were still trying to find a system that worked. Between feeding, changing and comforting the little guy, we barely found time to feed ourselves let alone sleep. Also, my wife had a c-section so her stomache muscles weren't right for awhile. Our first trip was to the Outer Banks when he was 3 months. Let me tell you, we didn't find a lot of time to surf and if anyone was surfing it was me, not my wife.

I underestimated the amount of energy and time it takes to raise a 1-2 month old especially our first. You might want to consider choosing a spot that has good hospitals. You don't want your child to be stuck in a 3rd world hospital if he/she is having health issues.

I say go for it but just know it may be difficult at times.

i'm noticing it takes more the older they get.

ours starts daycare in september (she's 13 months) and while we're sad that she's going to spend most of the day without us, we're happy she's going to be with kids all day having fun.
    fine

Yes, I guess "energy" wasn't the right word. It was the transition of having a newborn and figuring out what we were doing.

Good points on staying in 1st world, etc.

Another option with wetsuits would be N.H., Maine, Novia Scotia. It can be fantastic in October. No crowds. Water not yet cold. Hurricane or Nor'easter swells. Foliage. Cheap off season. Nice variety of beach, point and reef breaks.

It is helpful to have local knowledge in these parts. A small tidal swing is 6 feet. It can be more than 12 feet during big swings. That perfect low tide reef may only break for an hour and then just disappear.

3-4 meters sounds like a lot of fun right now. The current .6 meter dibble is sad.
