Kimbo definetly does not draw the high society crowd. That was a great middle weight fight until they stopped it. And the crowd boed the entire fight.

Shit decision in the Kimbo fight.

If I didn't know better I'd say it was fixed.

Maybe, the guy is a cash cow for now. But his next punch was going to end that fight. But still, they stopped it to early.

Kimbo's age was showing. His brute stregnth saved him early on the ground but he was fading fast.

Any fighter with half a ground game would have finished Kimbo within 2 minutes.

    Don't believe the hype

Cool give us Mary Tyler MORE !

can't believe I missed this last night.
in HD it woulda been sweet. Evidently, mainstream america enjoys "savage amusement" in a big way. Look at all the hits on youtube since last night.
Pretty funny, Burger King paid big bucks to rep in the cage. Wanna be a XXL street fighter ?
    Just train on BK's and Mickey's 40s.

finally, someone that gave kimbo a run for his money. Good job James.

"It takes combat sports to another level," he said. Presumably, boxing is for relatively sissy sport in Johnson's neighborhood.

Johnson reported that Slice told him, "I want to get on the ground. I want to break somebody's arm."

that popped bloody ear was bad enough

I usually don't watch this, but happened to catch these fights on tv last night. That other guy's ear in Kimbo's fight was some of the more fucked up ears I've ever seen

    PLEASE

If you are new to MMA (mixed martial arts = the name of the sport)
    DO NOT
    watch hacks like Kimbo.

Please watch a proper MMA match.
Look for Georges St. Pierre, Anderson Silva, Quinton Jackson, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, BJ Penn, Fedor Emelianenko, etc.

Kimbo is to MMA, as snowblades are to downhill racing.

Gotta say, I'm not too fond of the ref's with the early stop in both the middle weight championship fight and in the Kimbo fight. Kimbo definitely looked like shit on the ground and it almost seemed like he only trained to fight one round, because after the first he seemed spent.

    For sure.

I was really disappointed in the doctor's decision to stop the Lawler/Smith fight. I think she should have given Smith 5 minutes, as the rules apaprently allow, THEN made a call.

Other than an overhyped Kimbo being the anti-climax, I think it was some pretty good entertainment. (Disclaimer: I only receive OTA broadcasts. PBS and the rest don't show much MMA.)

A lightweight could beat Kimbo. All he'd have to do is dance around him boxing style for a round and then he'd fall over from exhaustion.

I read that there was exactly 72 seconds of actual fighting in the first 70 MINUTES of the telecast? Is that true??? That is fucking ridiculous. How the fuck can anyone watch that crap. I mean do you guys really like watching 70 minutes of hype?

I tend to side with the view that says Kimbo Slice is making a mockery out of MMA.
I feel if I had watched this, Gus Johnson would be solely responsible for any enjoyment I got out of it. That guy could make curling exciting. Not to say that it isn't really, I watched that shit for a week straight on a Whistler trip....

Gina Carano is smoking hot. Gorgeous. She's gonna be a star, one way or another.

As far as Kimbo goes, each time I see him fight I am more impressed. Is he in the same league as top UFC guys? No.

But, considering 3 years ago he was a backyard brawler and now he actually has some skill, I'm impressed.

If he were a few years younger and starting his MMA career, he might have a shot at becoming a great fighter.

That being said, I would like to see him eventually fight a big name. James Thompson wasn't a Jackson or Liddell, but he wasn't a total schmuck either. His ear freaked me out though.

    Kimbo has definitely impoved.

Let him make some cash off his youtube notoriety and then have a hammering from somebody decent.

A couple of observations I had from my first time watching anything like this:

    1. Dear god there was a lot of hype in between the fights. This works in boxing where they can go 10 or 12 rounds so there actually is some fight time in there, but I ended up ignoring the hype and coming back to the tv whenever there was some action.

    2. It was relatively exciting to watch, even though the quality of the fighting was oinly so-so.

    3. I was really disappointed at how quickly people went down when they took a punch.

    4. Doing haymakers when you almost have the other guy down is not a good idea. It's still possible to throw hard punches while you're nder control yourself.

Please erase Kimbo from your mind.
Watch some UFC or old PrideFC.
Can't beat the Pride 2003 Grand Prix:

    Chuck Liddell
    Quinton Jackson
    Murilo Bustamente
    Hidehiko Yoshida
    Kiyoshi Tamura
    Wanderlei Silva
    Kazushi Sakuraba
    Fedor Emelianenko
    Mirko Cro Cop
    Alistair Overeem
    Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
    Ricco Rodriquez
    Gary Goodridge
    Igor Vovchanchyn

So we got Kevin, Kevin, Kevina, Kevlar (Kevlar?), Kassandra and Kiara. Who does this dude think he is, Roger Clemens?

I'm not much of a fan of MMA, but I've watched a few fights while flipping through the channels and when I was watching the fights on CBS my first thought was that CBS should have gotten better fighters. These guys looked way to winded compared to the fighters I've watched on cable channels and their ground fighting abilitys were sorely lacking. Kimbo just sat there and took elbow after elbow to the head and the other's guy's ear! My God he should have drained the damn thing before the fight.

Watching MMA fights under the banners such as UFC is much more entertaining. Those guys are so much more technical especially on the ground that it's obvious it takes real tallent to win rather than who can take more elbows to the head. Watching the fights on CBS reminded me of those Toughman Contest boxing matches.
