Yes. Sublime. I'm opening a thread for Sublime.
God, I miss those guys. I just spent 2 hours listening on youtube.
That is all. Build as you will.

You called?
Have you picked up the box set yet? I have heard 90% of their stuff over the years but there was a few that I didn't hear. One of my favorites was smoke 2 joints the version on Under the Sun didn't even come close to matching what was put on 40oz. If your looking for anything send me a PM I might be able to help you out.
Brad was a songwriting maniac. It's like the lyrics just flowed from his pen nonstop. Amazing, really. Genius? Yeah, I'd say. And to think there's so much of his work out there that hasn't even been published/recorded. Terrible guitar player though. Saw him play at a shady dive in Reno called the Del Mar station in '95. Opening act was (I swear) Kid Rock. I think it was $2. I actually once stayed in the hotel he spent his last night in. Too bad he never got the recognition he deserved (as a musician) while he was alive. Wasted talent. Wasted youth. Pity.
Man I would give a kidney to have been able to see them play live. I bet that would be a crazy show. I would imagine that there is a ton of stuff that was jammed out and never recorded. One thing that was awesome about them was the fact they managed to fuck up almost every chance they got. Getting kicked off Warped tour, Lou dog taking a shit in the record dudes office and countless others never helped them.
It was kinda heavy. I went there just expecting your average weeknight $2 local bar punk show. But it ended up being one of those rare things where you knew something "special" was unfolding right before your eyes, but it wouldn't be until years later that all the pieces really fit together. You could honestly "feel" it, you know? The vibe and the energy in the air seriously made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
Good band. Saw them on a whim one summer while visiting my folks when "Date Rape" was getting a lot of airplay and they blew my mind - I immediately bout "40 0z..." at the show, as did everyone else. There was almost a riot when they ran out.
I was looking forward to them touring clubs on the EC again when "What I got" and "Santeria" came out, only to find out that Brad had ODed. Bummer.
definitely topping my list of bands that i wish i had gotten a chance to see. was just jamming second hand smoke today.
Sublime, along with the Beastie Boys were the soundtrack to my formative years. Their songs bring up memories like no other music. Pretty trippy actually how vivid specific memories come back to specific songs. They are missed for sure.
Count me in. Sublime was also the soundtrack to my life during high school. Garden Grove still randomly plays in my head from time to time.
Another favorite

and that happened this weekend. must be summer![]()
Sublime,
Aside from Tipp, who I know would tell a priest the Pope sucked if he couldn’t remember the words to mass, I think the rest of you are being a bit too kind through your rose coloured glasses.
I was in SoCal for college from 91-95 and saw these boys quite a bit.
They were good and fun and occasionally transcendant
Some times they were fucked up and bad, screaming punk covers and slurring reggae songs over discordant rhythm and aimless guitar.
Date Rape, one of their least inspired songs, got some play on KROQ, but seemed almost a novelty to people.
I dug them a lot though and was really bummed when a mutual friend told me about Bradley’s death.
I had my 40 oz CD and I thought that was all I would have besides the memories. I turned a lot of people in basalt/Aspen on to it when I first moved there and passed around more than a few “tapes” of it
When I heard “what I got” in a Pizza place in Basalt, CO. I rushed up to the clerck and asked WTF, he said it was Sublime’s new album
I looked at him all crazy and said, Brad’s dead man.
He shrugged and said I don’t know but I dig it.
I bought the album and enjoy it, but it is no 40 oz to Freedom.
Then the huge surge in popularity, the hoodies, the stickers the lot.
It was odd and disconcerting honestly.
I am glad people got to know them, I hope Bradley’s widow and kid get some of that $.
FYI
Saw LB dub Allstars a few times and they blew goats.
D-Day,
I heard it was all a matter of if Brad was stoned, drunk, or both at the start of the show. I only saw them once and it was great, but have heard bootlegs from fanbois that just sucked ass, no matter how impressed they were. There's a pretty famous one floating around the web from the Fox Theater (or some other place outside of SoCal) where Brad just stops playing and fucks off for 2 songs, only to come back insisting on screaming shitty cover tunes for 15 more minutes and quitting.
The thing about Sublime is that they had something that noone else did. The end.
That's why there are tribute bands (Pepper, slightly stoopid), etc. When they were on, they were on. Hold on to your skunk records version of 40 .oz, they will be worth cash. Completely different mix than the MCA version(couldn't clear the samples)...
And I saw Brad and the boys in the outer banks of NC around '93. Changed my life- frilldoe.

Speaking of songs that take you right back, mine is "What I Got" and my only experience at the Green Derby in Southhampton, Long Island. About half way through the night at the bar, the song comes on and everyone -- I mean everyone (about a hundred people) in the bar stopped what they were doing, raised a glass and sang along. The bartender filled every empty mug, beer bong, whatever he saw and all the smokers lit one up on queue. Being that most of my friends at the time hardly had any idea who Sublime even was is what makes this silly moment so special to me. Every time I hear that song, I think back to that drunken night.
At least for me it was never about quality...I saw them at 1st Ave in MSP in 1994 and the show had nothing to do with their music. They just happened to be who was playing when half my "growing up" took place. Like anything that's 15 years gone by...the memories seem to get better with age.
I too have fond memories of Sublime. Numerous Skunk records fewllows used to frequent my house back in "the day." Folks from Philibuster, Slightly Stoopid, Bargain Music, The Ziggens. The stories of Bradley's addiction were simply grim. When I saw him and he was "on" he seemed to be one of the last true scat-masters. These guys had been playing together for so long, that the marriage of percussion to guitar to lyrics was phenomenal...when they were "on."
You kinda either love em or hate em. Even when they sucked, it seemed like we had music that was all our own back then (which is I think what Woodsy was getting at).
Glad I found a place to put this.
Viva Sublime, fuck Rome
Actually the LB Dub all-stars weren't bad even with some toothless crack addict on vocals
Sublime with Rome was horrid.
WOnt be seeing Romes money grab and not sure about Sublime with Brad's kid.Sublime With Rome Announces Farewell Tour — With None of the Original Members of Sublime
Variety
Sublime With Rome — which currently has no members of the original ska band — is embarking on a farewell tour. This comes after the founding members of Sublime announced their rebrand with singer Jakob Nowell, the son of original Sublime singer Bradley Nowell.
The tour kicks off April 11 in Catoosa, Okla., and runs until Sept. 14 in Kansas City, Mo. Sublime With Rome, which formed in 2010 to carry on Sublime’s legacy after Bradley Nowell’s death in 1996, will also release a final single titled “Love Is Dangerous.”
The final Sublime With Rome tour will feature Rome Ramirez leading a band comprising drummer Joe Tomino, bassist Brian Allen and Gabrial McNair on the trombone and keys. Original Sublime drummer Bud Gaugh and bassist Eric Wilson co-founded Sublime With Rome in 2010 with Ramirez, but Gaugh left the group in December 2011 and was replaced by Josh Freese. The offshoot band underwent a few other lineup changes throughout the years, and in February 2024 Wilson announced on Instagram he would no longer be performing with Sublime With Rome — only the new Sublime with Jakob Nowell.
The dates for Sublime With Rome’s farewell tour overlap with Sublime’s dates with Nowell. Sublime — that is Nowell, Gaugh and Wilson — will perform at Coachella on April 13 and 20. Sublime With Rome will be in Texas, Connecticut and New Jersey during those dates.
Ramirez said in a statement, “I’m beyond excited to announce our upcoming farewell tour! As we gear up to hit your city, the excitement is brewing. Get ready for an epic night filled with not only the Sublime hits but a special focus on never-before-heard SWR originals. This tour is a unique opportunity to celebrate the incredible journey we’ve had together with our fans. Join us for an unforgettable evening as we reminisce and create lifelong memories. Let’s make this farewell tour one for the books!”
Maybe
Brad's kid did pretty good at the fundraiser for HR back in December. I'd take this lineup any day vs. Rome.

Last time I saw sublime, they were sharing a bill with no doubt. Super fun show. 1994. I can’t believe some of it is on YouTube!!

I think the new LBDA album is pretty good
Sent from my iPad using TGR Forums
Met them and hung out in their tour bus at Warp tour. I was 16. They gave us beers and tried to hit on my GF at the time. Kinda creepers, but they had good weed.
