TR: FKNA, Buck Mtn. was good for the end of May.

the summit of Buck mountain is located just within the boundary of the Mount Zirkel Wilderness area in Northern Routt county. Dam skier, Yuri the lurker, and myself decided to try to make an attempt to get up to the MZW boundary on snowmobiles, we succeeded. Unfortunately, Dam forgot the memory card for his nice camera, and the batteries in my cheap camera were just about toast so I was lucky to snap off any pictures at all.

Yuri drives over a fresh skin track headed up Hahns peak.

Into the wilderness.. and up Buck we go.

I would like to mention that the view was pretty nice too. Now wasn't somebody bitching about Steamboat being flat?

Weird tracks. Anybody got any ideas? Lynx?

    Yuri.

    Dam skier watching Yuri ski.

Lame turn, sweet view of Big and little Agnes.

Yuri arc's one in the crud.

Then we drank beer and checked out the view of Buck Mtn.

45 miles of snowmobiling in late spring conditions. Zero stucks or break-downs. Very lucky.

    ...and thats all I got.
This thread is worthless until Dam skier posts his pictures of Buck Mtn. taken from across the North fork canyon. So lets see 'em, Dam.

No doubt. And it would have been interesting to see how it went...considering the recent/current snow/weather conditions.

Looking south off the summit earlier this year.

South side of Buck from up canyon.

Our trailhead changed the morning of, because the snow is finally melting out, so Buck was an audible. Seed house is no go until they open the road. We went out of the 550 trailhead, and had only a couple hundred feet of dirt to deal with. Great roosting, and a good ski to boot, considering it's pretty much June.

I would like to see some Teton Buck stoke as well.

    And nice TR.
Thanks for the info, I guess if it was a hare it would explain how it was making such big leaps. But I still cant get over how big of a footprint the thing leaves with its hind legs, and how much its prints look like they are from a dog or a big cat.

Dang Marko! The Steamboat area is looking pretty dang good right now! Can't believe it! Do you really have to do 45 miles of snowmobiling to get to Buck Mtn?

Been on the bike much yet?
