leaky UST's

Got some used Mavic Crossmax rims off ebay with conti tires. They arrived today and I think I got a really good deal on them, one of the tires is leaky though. The rim is good, the seal on the tire isn't, it's just in one spot, very small. How do you fix this?

slime it?

I know 2 guys that run UST with slime. One guy uses the Automotive Slime, which is supposidly thicker than bike slime(works more better). I suggest looking it up on MTBR, cause i have been known to be wrong.

How leaky is it? Does it lose noticable pressure over the course of a normal ride? You can use stans but that weighs something and we all know something is more than nothing .

I've got a quart of stans that i bought this spring and used once. You are more than welcome to use it and try it out.

doesn't slime add some weight to the tire and increase roll weight or whatever it is called?

can't you just get them to reseal it at a shop cheaply? i am running the exact same set up and as i said in another post, they held air all winter long. i was told going in i would need to check tire pressure every ride, but this set up seems to hold air really well.

It doesn't seem too leaky.....I haven't ridden them yet, but I think it would be noticeable while riding. There is Stans in them, guess I just need to put in a little more.

BTW, this new bike is going to weigh in about 22 lbs, super stoked for it. Flyk, maybe I'll try yours, just a bit of it. I will probably head up your way this weekend to ride. The race course at Powder mountain for the following weekend, and maybe some other stuff too if you wanna ride.

Stan's works and I'm living proof. Also - when installing tire, use soapy water (lots of soap) around the bead. Inflating with a compressor (i.e. quickly) also helps the bead to set.

My crossmax's never held air until I used Stan's.

Damn I thought you were talking about Underground Storage Tanks. I just got done dealing with some contamination because of those things. I think I have been working too much lately.

The stans eventualy dries up and needs to be replaced, so maybe yours is just old. And I second that you need to inflate quickly with high pressure.

Let me know when and where you're going this weekend, I may be going to the uintas but not set in stone yet. I was hiking up at powmow today, the trails are in good shape, nice and loamy. And the temp up there was perfect.
