    Torn Achilles...

Just a friendly game of tennis on a sunny afternoon--"POP"... After realizing that I hadn't been hit by a stray bullet, I self-diagnosed and hobbled on to the emergency room. The doc seemed relatively certain that it was a complete tear, though I haven't seen the surgeon or had an MRI yet. I've done a little web research and have done some searching here--anyone want to let me know what to expect insofar as how long I'll be off my feet, your experiences, etc.?

most peeps with an achillies repair will be back to activity between 4-6 months. The first 3 of that will prolly be in a boot to protect the repair then after that a gradual return to activity.

Just walk it off, just kidding. Talk to your ER you saw and ask for a good foot doctor. I say that because I know people who have had there's repaired several times. This girl was a PT too.

I had a Grade II tear (about 42% based on MRI) of the right achilles back in 1997. 10 weeks in a hard cast, 2 weeks in a walking cast, and a bunch of rehab (once the hard cast came off) and I was good to go. I still get twinges occasionally and have issues kicking if I scuba dive with fins, but all in all, it came back very well.

Full tear; had surgery on tuesday; first post-op inspection coming monday-->praying for no infection. Ankle heavily wrapped with an uber-ace, with a boot to top it off. I've more or less abandoned the boot at this point--more cumbersome than helpful.
