Anyone on here ever fished offshore in the Outer banks, NC? I am thinking of chartering either this boat or the center console on here. Any suggestions or comments?

I used to work for a guy who fished the Hatteras Marlin Tournament every year, so I got to fish it a few years. Never in any boats that small. I would recommend getting a few more people together and charter a 40ft+ boat, the deck gets crowded quick (and a tall tower is fun to jump off into the bottomless, warm, crystal-clear water!). However, as close as you are to the Gulf Stream out there there's no reason you couldn't catch a ton of dolphin and wahoo and stuff from a smaller boat, maybe even billfish? It'll be a blast no matter what you're in, have fun!
The killer awoke before dawn.
He put his boots on.
I think BeanDip has spent a lot of time down there, may want to ask her too.

Hiya,
My Dad owns a boat down there that does charters... although we're prettymuch booked every single day this summer. My sisters/bro in laws and I fight over the open days! lol.
Some questions for you:
Where are you staying?
We're based in Pirate's cove which is on the inlet heading to Roanoke Island. Plenty of charters there, also a bunch out of Oregon Inlet. If it's your first time down there, I'd almost recommend going out of Oregon Inlet, just because it's really cool, sort of a hardcore scene, people drive their trucks on the beach, etc... Pirates Cove is a bit more .... erm.... for the "pampered" fisherperson, if that makes any sense![]()
When are you thinking you will be down there? I could see if our boat has open days, and if not, recommend some other boats. Unfortunately with fuel prices being what they are, it's going to be tough to convince anyone to give you a maggot discountbut I can def. point you towards a boat you'll have a great day on.
I'd say with big charters, you have to more decide what sort of day you're looking for before you pick a boat anyways. Do you want to just haul fish, or hang out with cool guys, or bring along wife/girlfriend and have a fun day?
This guy docks a few slips over from us and is a GREAT guy, you will have a fun day and catch a lot of fish. out of anyone i've met down there and fished with, he is the best/nicest/etc.

I can pretty much go anywhere in the obx, but I would love to get to Oregon Inlet. i just want to go and catch a lot of fish I don't care at all about the glitz and glamor. We will probably be staying n a cheap ass motel somewhere. I am thinking about sometime in June. Thanks BD4all for your info!
I've fished out of Oregon Inlet a bit, too. It's typically a 40-50 mile run to the offshore fishing grounds. That's a long way to go in a small center console, and the seas in that area can get nasty pretty quick. It will be much less tiring in a bigger boat.
June is a bit early for the best white marlin bite, but you might see a billfish or two if you're lucky. Yellowfin tuna are the charter fleet's bread and butter, and they can usually find plenty of dorado as well.
I mostly fished on my own boat, so I don't know the charter fleet that well. The BeanDip family boat looks like a sweet ride, and their captain has a great reputation. Captain Jeff James on the Reel Deal is a good guy and a great fisherman. He's out of Pirate's Cove, too.
If you want to try some inshore fly fishing, Sarah Gardner on the Fly Girl kicks butt.
I would NOT go out into the gulfstream in a small boat. I've seen the water get rough plenty quick out there. I've gone out in relatively calm water, only to have a front blow in and have waves breaking over the bow of a 60+ footer.
Consider doing some inshore fishing for stripers. I highly recommend my buddy Reese: http://www.beachbumfishing.com/.
He's a great guy and knows the area well. He WILL put you on some good fish.
Of all the muthafuckas on earth, you the muthafuckest.
