    Bluegrass & Summer

now i got a fair amount a bluegrass. some allison Krause & Union Station, a bela Fleck album or 3, sammy Bush, Grisman, Old & in the way, some Yonder mountain & even some old SCI when they were still a bluegrass band & not noodlin fools.

now this here music sits on my shelf & gets no or little play.

    .
    till summer time.

once the tempechur punches past 75 & the sun comes out & the mountain breeze gets to blowin, I wanna hear some pickin.

    High lonesum jamboree barefoot boogie.

so who do I need to pick up to shake my honkey ass?!?

Definately check out the Seldom Scene. Awesome awesome group, as anyone living in DC can attest to.

Other great classic bluegrass: J.D. Crowe, Jerry Douglas, Ricky Skaggs, Mike Aldridge.

Anyone going to the Targhee Bluegrass fest? I've wanted to go for the last 4 years, but something always gets in the way. The 110 bones don't help either.

Thats good to hear, (at least if you've practiced enough)Graham and I are off to Weiser on Sunday after playing at the brewfest. I know you won't be there so I'll step on a goatshead or two for you.
In drove this drunken madman and stopped on a dime! Unfortunately the dime was in Mr. Rococo's pocket!

its a lowkey family affair. uncrowded & easy to get from front row to back row. lots of grass sittin and i dont recall seeing any busts.
the price scares me off to.

if you're lookin for a down low good time kicked back on a blanky its perfect. if your lookin for a massive throwdown with gazillions of screaming groupies flipping their hippy sticks in the air, hackin around, and beggin for change then TG is not for you.

mmmm weiser.... drunken music playing at 4:00 am......

too tense hippie parents and freaking people out with incorrect song titles and personal activities when getting your name announced on stage.

Sorry won't be there, playing a gig on Saturday.

Izza might just check that oot
Sybil sits in a rocking chair
Chewing tobacco and spitting out cares
Sound of a fiddle floating thru the air
From the Jones boy across the holler
From the Jones boy across the way

Backwoods folks take sides from the middle
Backwoods folks is old and brittle
But they sway like a tree to the sound of a fiddle
From the Jones boy across the holler
From the Jones boy across the way

You can hear him late at night
You can hear him in the first light of the day
There's a contest coming and a ticket to Nashville
And the Jones boy aims to play
A contest coming and a ticket to Nashville
And the Jones boy aims to play

    New and in the way:

    Railroad Earth

    Another one

I'll be upfront and say that I've known these guys for many years, and that bluegrass reviewers are quick to point out that aren't "really" bluegrass, as they have a bass and drums behind the banjo, fiddle, mandolin, guitars and various and sundry other instruments.

But, they are some of the most accomplished musicians playing the festival circuit these days, and the .reviews they get across the country are top notch.

well gotta say I saw the best bluegrass band I have ever seen on Saturday ( along with loads of other good bands @ the Snowbird Folk & Bluegrass festival)

    The Greencards

Kym Warner ( hes a dude) is the most wicked sick amazing mandolin & Mandola player i have ever had the pleasure to see. ( & I seen quite a few)
add a chick on an electric bass with a powerful voice

and an English fiddler with awry wit & you have a rollickin good time, catch em if ya can.

the are @ the Full Sail Tastin room on the 24th if any hood river area mags can check em out!
