Question Is there any point in making someone your "Buddy"?

I might be missing something here.
I hear about the "ignore" function a fair bit. But nothing ever about the "buddy" option
It would be very cool if, (for example) when one of your designated buddy's posted, or started a thread, you were notified, and/or it went into your "subscribed threads" file.
Or you got some kind of message when they logged on...
    Or something

    So, is there any point?

If you want to keep tabs on your buddies (or mortal enemies), go to the “Quick Links” drop down and open the Buddies list. This will open a new window with all your buddies in it. It will show you if your buddies are online or not. You can click on their “online/offline” light to pull up their profile and view all posts or threads.
I’m sure I read too much into your post and that you know all this of already, but some of my buddies post way too much for me to want a notice every time they said something stupid.

I'd worked out the Quick Links Buddy List, and saw the "pm users" option.
I didn't know about clicking on "the lights" to take me to the profiles, though.
Better, but still a wee bit lame, doncha think?

we'll be updating the software periodically, which will eventually implement a social networking component like facebook, so you'll have a homepage and a list of buddies. They'll likely buy you a few rounds!

No - this is the time when TGR capitalizes on the thousands of users here and makes a profit!

This is funny. A few days before this thread popped up, I posted a thread in Padded Room or somewhere noting I had read in the NYT that all the social networking sites have been trying to establish universal profiles that could transfer site to site. In that article, an example used was something to the effect of " If you have a profile, say, on a ski website (that's the example they used), you would be able to transfer it to Facebook or other social networking sites ." That's the gist of it. But that they used a skiing forum as an example struck me.

SIA says about 80% of skiers are online and that online sales for ski gear increased by 118% last year.

    edit:sia...
