    Targeting the Hudge ones.

So the taimen trout thing peaked my interest in landing a monster on a fly.

I would love to go to the USSR and give it a try, but at $6000.00 + for a trip it is out of the question at this point.

I've always wanted to go tarpon fishing, something about hooking a fish that is a 100lbs or more makes my pants tight. But hooking a 100 Lbs worth of air to sea missile on a fly rod gets me wet.

The research began. Homosassa, Fl. "The best place to hook a tarpon on a fly", is less than a hour drive from my grandpa's place. He has the boat, 23ft boston w/a pole platform and casting platform, dual trolling motors, ect ect.

The plans are are coming together and I've been looking at a 10 to 13 weight salty set up... Even looking at getting a two handed set-up... Abel Standard Big Game and some sort of TFO blank. I think I'll end up with the ten weight so I can use it for Kings and the like back at home.

If all goes well I'll be poling around the Homosassa Flats, launching blue crab flies in to the depths of hell. June 2009.

    giddyup.

So, who else goes after the hudge fackers on the fly?

Yeah, me too but it's different when your tarpon fishing. When you finally hook up with a decent fish, do 30 minutes of battle, play your angles just right the whole fucking time, get the damn thing within 10 yards of the boat and it rockets into the air just to spit your fly and say thank YOU for amusing me for a while.

That sums up my experiences. I have landed a few nice ones though.

DON'T BE A PUSSY!!! USE AN 8-WEIGHT LIKE A REAL MAN!!!

Seriously, that sounds awesome! My dad has caught tarpon in the Gulf. I'd love to do it some day. While you're down there, go after some Redfish too.

My dad said someday he and I will hit Florida and go after 'em.

Also, you can get some practice by going after large carp up your way. (seriously)

I was just down in Florida off Sanibel the end of April. They are tuff! We hooked a few but didn't land any. Pine Island Sound is a great place because we were able to shoot to the mangroves and get some snook in the afternoon. Best of luck!

I hear that, I went in Puerto Rico and hooked several well over the 100 pound mark and never got one of the bastards to the boat.

But what a rush! I cant wait to try it again!
