I'm going to buy a separate fly box and write MAGGOTS on it with a marker. When I pull it out on the water, people will think "he's fishing a maggot pattern?!?!" and I'll just say "yep".

Shit, biggest hooks I have are size 14's. Anybody want some small-ish woolly buggers? Otherwise, I gotta go shoppin'. I'm going to start with the San Juans for now.

Am I too late to get in on this party?? I have a nice selection of nymphs, small dries and dozens of others that may or may not catch fish, just tell me what you're looking for.

I think this would be fun. Am I to late to the party? My flies might not be the best but I can tie up some stuff that will catch fish.

Is everyone going to tie up something different or is everyone going to tie up a variation on the same thing? Like everyone ties a different caddis pattern or two and then passes them around?...or someone ties a caddis pattern and someone else ties a leech and someone else ties a stonefly nymph?

    Either way I am in.

I think for the fist go we should all tie something a little different, but they can be of similar category. That way we all get a nice mix.

Someone own up to the organizer role and make some rules. If there are no takers by wednesday, I'll do it.

I'll volunteer to organize, unless someone else wants it -- looks like we have a few natural organizers out there in the crowd.

    Who's in:
    1. Schwerty
    2. 72twenty
    3. fez
    4. iskipowder21
    5. hartzejr
    6. G.Gordon Liddy
    7. Yeti
    8. Andy B
    9. L8APX
    10. Adipose

Anyone else? Let's put a last-call out: stand up by 5pm Pacific time Wednesday, or wait until the next round.

With ten provisional participants, shall we play it safe and go with 2 flies of each type per recipient? That's 20 flies each -- assuming you'll keep a pair of your own -- which is, depending on your speed and your pattern, at least a few hours. (There's a chance I'll tie you all Grey Ghosts, which will take longer than that.)

What type of fly? In a local fishing forum's trades, they do themes: all-streamers, all-nymphs, even all-caddis of different stages. For this first trade -- and I hope it's a success that we choose to repeat -- I'm inclined to open it up to any pattern folks are willing to tie.

Procedurally, I propose that you'll each tie up 20 of your pattern, box them, and mail them to me (I'll circulate my address). We need to set a deadline for participants to get them in the mail: is two weeks (May 28) enough time, or too long? (I know I'm headed north the weekend before.) Within a week of receiving all flies, I'll then return your box to you containing 2 of each type. Postage is the only shared expense we need to address; it should only be a dollar or so per package.

    Comments? Objections? Agreement?

Thanks to whoever started this idea. Very cool.

I still like all streamers but will spin up what ever. If we do all streamers, please wrap more than just black buggers.

Thanks for heading this up Yeti. I'll take the next round.

Doesn't matter to me when the deadline is.

Can you whip up something that the big boys around here will be able to see in the chocolate goo that will be flowing down the freestones for the next 2+ months?

If everyone can tie a valid streamer, all streamers is fine with me. To address schwerty's good point (we don't need 20 black buggers), why doesn't everyone either post or PM with what they'll be tying? That waqy we can head off any overlap or ridiculosity.

I'm still in. I'll contribute a yellow montana special streamer and some killer tungstun zebra midges (they're small but deadly!) Unless we zoom in on some sort of theme.

thanks for taking the lead Yeti. I'm for open category rather than a specified type. If thats cool, I'll stick with what I said earlier, a parachute BWO and an olive jig-head type wooly-bugger (creation of a fishing buddy of mine). The deadlines sound good too. Tomorrow, 5pm pacifictime deadline for entry and send flies out by the 28th.

    ready... break!

Well, all I have materials for is black and olive flash-a-buggers, but I will mix them up a bit. I am also planning on going beadhead on these. I was also thinking of addins some weight to them if you want - let me know if you do or do not want weight.
