You know you have always wanted to tie your own flies!!

On another note, I need to stop in here (fishing forum) more often.

Someone here shoud buy this. I would, but I don't really need it and my wife would kill me if I bought more fly tying stuff. But seriously, someone should get this so we can all start tying and swapping flies.

720, what do you tie? I tie mostly steelhead flies, but unfortuntately I don't get back to Oregon much to use them. I'm starting to get better with small dries and simple nymphs, but just don't spend the time behind the vise to master the art.

Right now I am still new at this, so I have been tying woolly buggers, san juan worms, scuds and numphs. I have also made an attempt at some parachute adams. I am just trying to master these patterns and then I will move onto new ones.

i need to get better at tying too. i mostly just tie big streamers that are hard to find. i usually order a bunch of smaller nymphs and dries to get through the summer online.

Where do you get them online. I tried once and the flies I got were trash. The dry flies sunk like rocks.

We should try a mini fly swap some time. Everybody tie up a dozen flies of their choice and will pass a box around then distribrute the flies to everyone involved... It's a cool way to get some new ideas, and force you to practice on the vise a bit!

are the main ones i have ordered from, quality is ok, i dont fish drys a whole lot so if a fly sank, i'd probably chalk it up to operator error rather than a problem with the fly.

I've suggested a fly swap here before and got no response..... I'm in for sure if we could get enough people to make it interesting.

What is your take on this:

I try to buy flies that are tied locally at the shops, but I have occasionally bought flies at the department store that are probably coming out of India. I know the flies from India are hand tied (right?) but in more of a mass-produced way.

So, would it be something like this:

"I'll send you 10 woolly buggers in exchange for 10 caddis" type of a thing?

Any saltwater tiers out there? I would be interested in this, but the flies I use would probably be better suited to knocking your fish out.
