    First Road Ride Ever

I just went for my first ride on the road tonight(around 10 miles)on a old specialized cyclocross bike. I'm scared because i really really liked it. I am afraid that this could be the start of another expensive habit. My freeride rig cannot take that kind of hit to it's budget. I suppose the only thing that i could see making a big difference would be clipless pedals...Can I just use the ones from my Mountain bike, should i go with a road specific one?

When I started road riding I used mtn pedals. I later switched to the Shimano SPD SL road pedals and love them. That said I'd start out with the mtn pedals until you are sure you will stick with it and then get a nice set of road pedals and shoes. The people I worked with in the bike shop last summer all started out as mountain bikers and now only ride the road. You're soon going to be hooked. I try to do both but haven't done much of either this year yet.
