cant believe it took me this long to find this thread. Before i left for work in the Pacific june 1 i was fortunate for the second year in a row to get a few April days on the Mirimachi in NB after the ice broke( 8 hour drive from north of Boston.) With a couple scary dudes from Albania and Macedonia and my finace's dad i was fortunate to get one decnt sized and beautiful grilt(spelling perhaps.) have been really doing a number on my future father-in-law over his last three trips he has takem me up there. its really a miracle he keeps inviting me back. Other than that i spend my time in salem and beverly mass going after stripers and blues with my 8wt vt2.
Was very lucky to get one nice schoolie in may, before i left on a simple brown looking sand lance type fly(salem harbor) that was instumental in the best fall triper fishing of my life last season. I am gone for the summer but will be back for october and if anyone is ever in the area please pm me. my friends and i have quite a seup in salem harbor for fishing and relaxing. will try to get some pics from last season up as soon as i can. If anyone has a Mass DMF recreational saltwater fishihg guide i am credited with a pic of a nice schoolie and my finace towards the back.

A few pictures from the end of May that I've finally offloaded.

Tannic waters in a stream up north.

Grand Falls. Thoreau visited in 1857. Speaking of the river above the falls, he wrote, "It is exceedingly rapid and rocky, and also shallow, and can hardly be considered navigable, unless that may mean that what is launched in it is sure to be carried swiftly down it, though it may be dashed to pieces by the way. It is somewhat like navigating a thunder-spout. With commonly an irresistible force urging you on, you have got to choose your own course each moment, between the rocks and shallows, and to get into it, moving forward always with the utmost possible moderation, and often holding on, if you can, that you may inspect the rapids before you." We pulled a good fish out of a tiny pool in the rocks at the base of this.

Another stream, this one clear. Water's low, but the holes are holding.

Attempting to appease the salmon where the stream flows into the big lake. It didn't work, but we managed to hook 4 chubs at once between the two of us.

The only fish shot of the trip. Wild brook trout, way up the stream.

I just got myself a little 8ft fiberglass boat to carry to the smaller ponds in the area that don't have slips, and was rewarded with an amazing day of smashin' on the weed beds- last saturday a friend and I spent about 5 hours working our slug-gos over the edge of the bass weeds and downed tree cover- we landed (very conservatively) 50+ large and smallmouths. We're talking back-to back-to back catches, multiple same-time catches for me & my friend, and just about everything was in the 2-3lb range. All catch & release. And the guys on the shore weren't catching a damn thing while we were high-5ing and laughing our asses off 30 yards away. Truly epic day. Just had to spread the love, cuz the fish around here are jumpin! I didn't take pictures because I was weary about bringing my brand new camera on a boat the first time out, but it'll be coming next time! Keep up the great work everybody!

Also, any mags in the greater Mass area wanting to go for a few casts get ahold of me, I'm always down and willing to travel!

Still mud in the JH area but plenty of fishing outside this valley! For those of you in the JH valley, lower flat creek is sorta fishable. Spring creeks are producing some monsters.

The Big Hole has been fishing really well, salmon flies, goldens, pmd's, and green drakes but the fish are near gorged. That happens every year during the salmon fly hatch, then they don't eat for a week. The hatch should be about on on the Madison, what's going on over there?
The bitterroot is fishing really well on goldens but since most of the state is still unfishable it's really crowded.

Some nice pockets with nymph action, middle Poudre- this was June 28.

    Flow still pretty high though

Good to get the waders wet

This little beauty, and a few of his brethren, came from Wigwam Creek, LCW, on July 4th. Griffith Gnat worked like a charm:

did a hike up into RMNP Saturday and kept hiking until I found fish dumb enough for me to catch them. Absolutely gorgeous day, and beautiful little cutthroats that were pretty much eating whatever you could drift by them. We caught most on elkhair caddis and one on a foam beetle thing. Would have been a blast with a 3wt, still fun with the 5wt

Fishing in the Panhandle is well under way. The CDA river has been lights out for about two weeks now. Golden stones, Ants, Beetles, and streamers. The Joe has been slowly dropping so should be lights out by the end of the month. Headed to Bozeman on Tuesday for 5 days, hoping the Gallatin will get a little vis by then. If not will be on the Upper Madison or fishing private access on the East Gallatin. If any one sees a green Dodge diesel(my buddies)with matching topper and lumber rack on the Madison, pull over and throw some rocks.

I'll be out walking the Madison off and on this week and next. I'll look for that green dodge and have rocks ready to throw.
If you see a dark grey subie w/ big Yakima box, throw some stones back my way and shout out a hello.

igBand; Just talked to my buddy and we are hitting the East on Thursday then the Madison below Quake early Friday then below Ennis dam Friday PM. I'll keep some stones ready. Hopefully the Salmon flies are make their way to Quake by Friday, I hear they are in Ennis right now so it seems very possible.

Just got back from a recon of the East G. above Belgrade. Still high and obviously off-color, but according to one source there are plenty of fish there biting. I'm going to hit it tomorrow and will report back if there is anything of interest.

South St. Vrain starting to come down and good bugs coming off. Not much surface action but browns are rising to anything attractive.

ok...WTF? I go back to the same spot, exactly 24 hours later where I landed a decent brown, a couple whiteys and missed a BIG strike from a BIG brownie.

BUGS EVERYWHERE. I mean, clouds of them. It was so strange... NOT A SINGLE FISH RISING. I saw maybe 2 or 3 rings on the water from tiny fish in the shallows. These bugs were humping and laying eggs and having a grand old time. No fish. I tried to match the patterns... not a single strike. I switched to an olive bugger (what I was using the day before on the missed big strike) and nothing. Tried rock worms, SJ's and G-bugs. NOTHING. I got totally skunked.

Anyway, had a great sunset. Took some pictures...

Heading out - bugs on the windshield

My new ghetto in-cab rod holder (actually works pretty good!)

    Hawk being taunted by robins

River looking good upon my arrival

    bug on the hat

Great sunset over the Snowy Range

Put some new stickies on the rig

I think the fish knew I had my camera with me this time. Bastards.

Had the similar thing happen on Sunday. Was out during a massive Caddis hatch on the Blue just above Green Res. Matched it perfectly. Though with the super high flows, they were holding deep. Didn't see a single riser. I did land a couple once I switched to a nymph.

Went out on the lake at dawn this morning. stocker rainbows on woolly buggers. Just took a scenic shot from the beach (I left the camera on dry land because my silly ass is clumsy).

This guy was starting to get annoyed with me. He had really big saggy balls too.
